One more thing about the Writing section of GaTech. One of their prompts says 1000 character is the limit. Mine is 1800+. Should I cut it out, or let it be?

EDIT: Length must not be greater than: 1000 characters (current length is 1817)

Those are state schools. I don’t think any of them give financial aid to international students. Did you look at their websites? If they don’t give FA to int’ls, you’ll be expected to pay full freight and show that you have the money…probably about $40k per year.

for instance…on GT’s website:

*International Students

International students are not eligible for federal or state financial aid programs. Institutional scholarships administered by our office are not awarded to international students. *

You really should check the websites of your schools before applying if you need aid in order to afford to go. Many/most state schools do not give aid to int’ls. Many privates don’t either.

There are a few that give merit scholarships to int’ls.

And there are a few that give need-based aid to int’ls.

Are your parents helping you pay the transportation to the US and also the app fees? Just as in the U.S., the cost of college has to be a major discussion between a student and his/her parents. In the U.S., college is expensive … you can’t work part time to pay a $40,000 tuition bill; you also cannot take out loans in that amount. At some schools you may be eligible for scholarships if your stats are amazing, or you could also apply to private scholarships. Have a heart-to-heart with your parents about what they an afford and what you can reasonably afford, and then be realistic about colleges that are a financial fit as well as an academic fit.

I have talked to them, and one of my cousins, and they say they can afford some of it. But it will be a great pressure on them. They will pay for transportation and all.

Again, can you tell me something about the private scholarships? Any links, names?

You need to find out exactly how much your parents can pay. Then you need to read about financial aid for international students in the Financial Aid forum and the International Students forum (be sure to check out the subforum for India).

You must apply for aid when you apply for admission. You will need the information about your aid in order to get your student visa. If you can’t show that you have enough money from your family and from your university and any outside scholarships, you won’t get your visa. It really is that simple.
