I’m a sophomore in a 6-year pharmd program. There’s this interview we all have to go through before we could advance into the professional years (3rd year and above), which I failed.
Could anyone please look over this letter? My English is not perfect (not an international but a green card resident), so some help with grammar would be appreciated a LOT.
Dear (name of the dean):
My name is ___. On (date), I was notified that I did not pass the second year pharmacy students’ interview required to progress into professional years of the Doctor of Pharmacy program. The interviews happened on (date) (initial) and on (date) (second), during which I could not successfully demonstrate my communication skills because of my anxiety issues. I am writing this letter in the hope to appeal the decision that has been made.
I have been struggling with social and generalized anxiety for many years, after several traumatic events that happened in my childhood, which is also what lead me to come to this country. These symptoms have subsided over the last two years to the point that they would not interfere with everyday functioning, as I was meeting new people, making friends, and working towards my dreams. However, I did not expect my anxiety to act in a highly stressful situation like the interview, and affect my ability to successfully communicate my intentions.
As soon as I realized how my anxiety could get problematic again, I met with a clinician from UHCS on (date). I am currently discussing plans for therapy and considering group counseling to handle this issue. With a GPA of 3.5, I believe I have demonstrated my intellectual ability and passion. I promise my family and I will take every step necessary to resolve this issue. The past two years have been the best years of my life, as I was able to imagine what my studies will lead to. Being able to help people as a healthcare professional has long been my dream ever since my grandfather passed away from cancer.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. Please let me know if you would like to meet me in person before you make your decision.
Sincerely,
