Appeals?!

Has anybody ever tried to appeal an admissions decision after you were rejected from a college? If you have, I need some help from somebody who has first-hand experience. How did you go about the process? I'm aware that most colleges have different procedures, but I just need a general idea.
Were you successful in your appeal?
And, does anybody have any advice that I could use to help with my appeal?
Any information would be helpful, thanks.

Most schools don’t entertain appeals, those most likely to are state schools. At those, the general rule is that the appeal must be based on info that was relevant at the time of admission that the school didn’t get for some reason. An appeal usually can’t be based on things that happened after the application submission date like higher senior year grades or scores. The exception I’ve seen is that some state schools will consider newly found financial hardship. So if you were rejected by UCD, you live nearby and a parent lost a job making the housing cost at another school impossible, it could be grounds for appeal that it’s the only UC you can commute to.
