I appealed a couple of days ago so I obviously don’t know the result, but I wrote about my verbally abusive father (which I didn’t put on the original app). From what I’ve seen though, make sure you give them new information, don’t just say how bad your situation is but also how it has affected you, and make sure you aren’t just telling them that it’s your top school because that isn’t what they want. Also if you’ve done something impressive since then or anything significant has changed, tell them. Also check your app to make sure the grades and scores are correct one last time because that can make a difference. Good luck!

The amount of appeals that actually work is very few. A school isn’t going to reverse a decision they just made, because you don’t like it or disagree. Appeals that are won generally have something along the lines of information being omitted on the application somewhere by mistake, a clerical error on the behalf of the university, or some dramatic or substantial NEW information. I don’t mean to sound like the bad guy, I wish you the best in your collegiate career, but it’s very difficult to get an admissions committee reverse their decision without things of that nature.
