is it really true that Apple products could become obsolete lets say a decade from now.

^not sure what you’re alluding to here, but any current technology will be obsolete in 10 years. Most in 3 years or even sooner. Sooner or later, the support for a device is dropped. Just the way of the world. Apple products have been known to last quite a bit longer than their windows counterparts and many older Mac machines are still very capable in today’s standards. I’m currently typing this on a PowerMac G4 MDD, released in 2003. It does pretty much everything I ask of it including youtube (240p only, but clear and without any studdering), facebook, some light gaming, and school work. It does this with speed too considering when it was made. Its been incredibly reliable as well, never had any major issues. I would really love to see a pentium III from that same point in time do half the things my MDD does. Thats just my opinion on all this though.

Apple just came out with their Summer http://store.apple.com/us_edu_220400/browse/campaigns/back_to_school promotion. It looks the same as in the last couple of years, with a small discount ($50-$100) on laptops and a $100 iTunes card. The only difference that I could see was that iPhones are also included in the promotion. iPad and iPhone purchasers get a $50 iTunes card.

Not too bad if you were going to buy one of these items anyway, but still not as good as the deals Apple used to offer. Of course, how many of us would value an iPod as much these days, when most of us have smart phones that hold our music.

Macmall with the appleinsider discount can be a better deal than Apple’s depending on your price and state tax (No tax for macmall purchases outside of NY).

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but if you have your college ID or bring proof of enrolment Apple gives discounts for students (also for teachers and military members)

I know this thread is over a month old but I’d figure I’d reply because the promotion is going on for another couple days (until sept 6) and I just bought a MacBook Pro. Yes, they are giving you a $100 gift card with your purchase but they also give you $200 OFF your MacBook Pro! I am unsure as to why they don’t really advertise it but they do. So all in all you’re getting around $300 in savings - $200 Instant savings. I bought my Macbook Pro 13" yesterday. If you get the MacBook air they are giving you $50 off plus $100 gift card because it is already the cheapest laptop that Apple offers.
