Applicants Of 2011!

Hello again! I left for a while, but now that I am absolutely positive I’m applying (with complete parental agreement), I’m back for good!

I’m a freshman next year so I take English I, Physics, Geometry, Honors Spanish II, and World History. It doesn’t look like my transcript is going to be anything spectacular right now :(

Hi! I am applying to many schools for the 2011 - 2012 school year, as an ingoing freshman. Im from the midwest. Deerfield Academy is DEFINITELY my first choice. I would die if I didn’t get into DA. But I am also applying to Hotchkiss, Taft, Choate, Berkshire, The Hill, Kent, and maybe Exeter.

He mouthed off to the teacher. He’s actually not a jerk… just not big on authority figures!

Anywhooo, I’m taking:
Honors English 10
Driver’s Ed/Health
Hospitality and Tourism
Chemistry
Honors American History
Algebra 2 w/ Trig
Cross Country Athletics

My electives are soooo not impressive! Plus I’m taking Driver’s Ed 1st semester, which isn’t good because I don’t know how to drive! Like, at all.

Mine schedule is:

World History
World Literature
Pre-Calc
Physics
Chemistry
Spanish 3
Elective

I’m taking Driver’s Ed next year after school and I am really scared. haha. I’m going to be that kid who crashes the school car.

You’re already taking pre-calc? That’s crazy. That’s the highest level of math we offer at my school.

Hi! I am applying to many schools for the 2011 - 2012 school year, as an ingoing freshman. Im from the midwest. Deerfield Academy is DEFINITELY my first choice.
@lexie101816,
You’re applying to a lot of the schools I’m applying to. Deerfield is a top choice of mine as well. I’m touring/interviewing on August 25th. Have you set up an interview yet? Good luck getting into Deerfield!

@ifax108, i am not touring till late the 23rd of october, lol. What kind of grades and stuff do you get? have you taken the ssat yet?

@lexie101816,
In sixth grade I got B+s and A-s at a prestigious private arts concentration school. It’s a very unique school. In seventh grade I got A’s and some A-s. Last term of seventh grade my GPA was 3.9. I get probably the third best grades in the school. As for the SSAT I took in seventh grade and got a 93 on it. I’m studying over the summer and I took a practice SSAT and got a 96 on it.

Is anyone else taking two trips for tours? I’m splitting the trips up so I’ll interview/tour four schools over the course of two days, and then do another trip like that a few weeks later.
I honestly can’t wait to see the campuses in person :)

I live with 3 hours of all of my schools so I can just do tours on saturdays and when I don’t have school.

lucky duck

@loubear,
I’m taking a trip to CT, but it’s just for one weekend.

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!(:

@lexie101816, I have faith in you! DA is amazing!

@2010hopeful: Though many BS have classes on Sat, I would encourage you to visit on a weekday to see the school in full swing. Missing a few days of class at your current school isn’t going to be the end of the world.

^ I am applying to all of the schools I applied to last year so I have already have seen those schools in full swing. I am just going to do Saturday visits or summer interviews for those. I’m trying to schedule the other schools on days where there is a teacher workshop or early dismissal days so I don’t miss much school.

I AM applying. I decided for sure, and my parents support me 100%.

My final list:
Deerfield
St. Paul’s
Blair
Episcopal
Emma Willard
Thacher

Ok, I know that this isn’t a chance forum, but there are a lot of people that read this and I want a lot of responses. Firstly, here are the schools that I am applying to: Berkshire, Deerfield (Number 1 Choice), Hotchkiss, Kent, The Hill (???), Choate, Exeter, and maybe Taft. Here are my stats:
Grades and School:
7th: A’s, mostly B’s, and one C+ on a math exam
8th: Even though we havent started I am DEFINITELY getting all A’s.
EC’s: Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Math Counts, Giving back thing through my school, Girl alliance thing through my school.
My school is a private/independent day.
I am white and would not require FA, and from the Midwest.
SSAT: Havent Taken it yet

Cons:
I went to Taft Summer school and did TERRIBLE, my parents think that that will really affect me, along with my grades from 7th grade.

CHANCE ME PLEASE! THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

What do you mean when you say you did terribly at Taft summer school? If you mean academically, you may want to rethink the top schools. You really don’t want to be in over your head. Think back on your 7th grade Bs. How hard is your school and did you put a lot of effort into those classes? I think it’s safe to say that most of the kids going to the top schools from public schools anyway, have mostly As without really putting much effort into their schoolwork - by just showing up and sort of paying attention. Look honestly at your abilities and try to find a good match for YOU. Not only will you have a much better chance getting in, you will likely be much happier once you’re there. There is a school out there that is PERFECT for you, I’m sure. But broaden your search beyond the so-called HADES schools. Once you take the ssat, it will give you a better indication of what schools might make the most sense to apply to. Your grades don’t give me pause as much as you saying that you did terribly in a boarding environment that was likely not as difficult as what you will find at many of the schools you have mentioned.

@lexie101816,
Was your school private or public? I’ve been wondering that too. And was it challenging?
