Application and housing question

My daughter has a 4.0 GPA unweighted. She has a 31 ACT, with a 32 super-score. She is most likely going to graduate from high school in May with her AA due to dual enrollment and AP classes. I am assuming she will be accepted, unless you tell me something different. She did the early application in October.

My questions - will she be entering as a Freshman or Junior? Is she required to live on campus in the dorm or can she live off campus? If on campus, what are the chances of the honors dorm? Thanks.

There is no requirement to live on campus. In my opinion, she will be invited to join the Honors Program. I think she will be entering as a freshman as opposed to a transfer student, but will have her credits for the classes that transfer over.

Like Nolette said, there’s no requirement to live on campus. There’s not enough space for all of the incoming freshmen to live on campus (only about 5200 spots available for freshmen with an incoming class normally well over 6000). It’s highly recommended and I do recommend it for most freshmen.

Your daughter will technically be classified as an FTIC- First time in college- student. She will have the class standing that correlates to her credit hours earned (so likely either a sophomore or a junior), but she’ll be classified as a freshman in the system for applications.

The odds are really good that your daughter will be offered admission into the Honors program. If she is, she’ll be eligible to live in the Honors dorms on campus (though she won’t be guaranteed this- more people apply to live there than there are spots). If she wants to live on campus, that’s probably a good idea (and if she does want to live on-campus, the Honors housing is a great choice), although keep in mind that she really should be 100% set on living on-campus her freshman year before she applies- it can be almost impossible to get out of the contract with FSU Housing if she decides that she wants to be in an apartment off campus or something.

Thank you both for the information. It is appreciated.

I also recommend she live on campus for at least one year. It’s a great experience and an excellent way to become a member of the student community.

One more question. I can’t find when we are supposed to submit the application for housing consideration. Is that after you receive confirmation of acceptance? Am I just missing it? Thanks!

It shouldn’t be available yet.

Last year, Housing changed their policy to opening the housing application on a specific date (I believe sometime in mid-January) instead of at midnight the night that the December decisions were released.

I don’t know if they are going to do the same thing this year or not. The application will either be available when the decisions go out in a couple weeks or it’ll be available once the Housing office picks a date. :)

I’m going back to check our credit card. I don’t remember if this one showed up yet or not. Other schools have, but not sure about FSU. Will post again after my review.

I checked and we have only paid our application fee. That was charged and paid immediately, but was only around $35.

Ok, so we are accepted. I am still worried about housing and seeing if she can get in the honors program. Is there anything else we need to do? Yes, I know I sound like a worried mom.

First of all congratulations to your daughter, I also just found out I was accepted. The housing contract will be available on 1/15/2014 at 9am, it was posted on the FSU Housing Twitter.

Do we have to pay our school deposit ($200) before we start working on the housing contract?

Unless things changed in the way that works in the last year or two, no. You’ll be able to submit your housing contract and pay that deposit before you have paid your admissions deposit.

Thanks Pasbal! Is there are a way that I get a head start on filling out the housing contract paperwork before the big day on January 16th (at 9 AM) when the forms can be submitted? I want to have everything filled out and ready for early submission that morning.

I meant January 15th in my previous post.

The housing contract/application does not become available to fill out in advance. It’s long and tedious and very frustrating since they switched from the relatively simple application from a few years ago. :frowning: Last year the process was a really bad experience for the 2013 admitted students from what I have heard.

Good luck!

I see Pasbal has a loyal follower, Pasbalguru now! hahaha
