Application Anxiety

I have applied early action to USC and it’s my number one choice. I have this constant worry and anxiety that I won’t be accepted. I’m a good student with a weighted GPA of. 4.95 and a unweighted GPA of 3.92. I have taken some rigorous courses that include AP Bio, AP Calc AB. I took it a bit easier my senior year but I’m still taking 2 duel enrollment courses and AP Environmental Science. My other senior year classes are either normal or extremely easy. My best SAT score is a 1210 and my best ACT is a 22 (which is below their average). Finally, I’m not the president or anything of any clubs or organizations, but I have some other pretty good extracurricular activities. I guess I’m just worried that my ACT and SAT is too low or my classes were not rigorous enough. I’m just looking for some reassurance from anyone that has been accepted and have any advice. Thank you.

All you can do is continue to do your best. Make sure you have a backup or two in place, just in case. The admissions folks will look at your entire application, not just your test scores. And, if you don’t get accepted, you can always transfer in provided you have a strong freshman year elsewhere. Good luck!

I think it would help to start applications to other schools. If you are accepted to USC, then great. If not, it will be a lot more difficult to get momentum going on those other apps while doing it with a heavy heart. Keeping busy with those other apps might also help take your mind off worrying.

My daughter got her acceptance the first week of November two years ago, so hopefully you get a YES in just a couple more weeks and you can relax! Your GPA is most definitely there, and I would imagine your test scores are within range so it seems to me like you’ve got a good shot, but agree that it’s always a good idea to have a backup plan in your mind just in case. Best of luck!

If you’re in-state, those stats should easily get you in. I believe out-of-state students will need to have stats that are a little higher, but you’re good if you are an in-state student. My daughter got in 2 years ago on similar stats, and I’ve seen worse stats get into USC.

I think you are fine and will be accepted. Try to relax now that your application is in. There is nothing more you can do so enjoy this time to breathe a little easier. Of course you should work on other options. It is always wise to cast a wide net.

Good luck
