DD's application was complete 11/5, but she has not received notifications of anything yet. Do you think it possible that they were waiting for her pre-scheduled campus visit last week on 11/21? The visit had been scheduled since 10/17. DD was invited to visit by admissions. DD's travel and hotel were paid for by the college and the trip was arranged by an admissions counselor. We had a 1 hour meeting with the counselor in the morning and then had lunch with him later in between campus and engineering tours. Her application fee was also waived. I assumed the school was very interested in her.

Do you think they could have been waiting on decisions until our visit?

Yes, I’m most anxious to hear about scholarships. I wasn’t, but now that I’m seeing other highly qualified-looking students not getting the full tuition, I’m not sitting so easily. This was supposed to be our sure thing, our financial safety. Without at least the full tuition and the $4000/yr engineering scholarship, DD can’t go here. So, yes, I’m anxious to hear some news.

So when you check the status of your application and they have made a decision, what will it say instead of “This application is complete”? Admitted? Rejected? There does not seem to be a space for where their decision goes so im just figuring it will show up instead of this application is complete. Can anyone confirm this or do we have to check our email/ get a letter in the mail to see if we were accepted

I got accepted a month and a half ago and it still says “This application is complete”. You’ll get mailed a big white envelope with the Cathedral on it if you are accepted.

ArKhAiK,
There’s no point in applying to most schools because I am separated (almost divorced) from DD’s father. The man is useless. Not only would he not support her one dime past her 18th birthday (and he owes me a LOT of back support that I’ll probably never see), he most likely wouldn’t fill out his end of the annual financial aid paperwork. Therefore, DD is locked out of applying to any school that uses non-custodial parent financial information. (That’s most of the top schools.)

The 690 writing score is an essay issue. DD couldn’t get above a 7! Her older sister couldn’t get above an 8. Even though older sis didn’t miss a single multiple choice, she could only garner a 720 because of the darned essay. They both blame their essays on their IB training, something about Theory of Knowledge style writing. DD’s application essay(s) shouldn’t be too much of an issue because she let me edit them.

Speaking of older sis, she had a 1500/2220 SAT’s 3.98UW 4.8W GPA. 3 years ago Pitt offered her full tuition and $4000/yr Engineering scholarship. She didn’t even send any recommendations and didn’t write an essay. She had no prior contact with the school.
I guess things have changed since then. (Older sis did not go to Pitt. She didn’t like the city nor the northern weather.)

When my older sister was applying to college, Pitt offered her full tuition before she even applied! Times really are a-changing (unfortunately). The nice thing is it shows how well-known and popular Pitt is becoming as a top choice for college.

If it’s in essay issue, you would do well to read around on these forums for the mega-threads that include instructions from individuals who are real readers. I consider myself an excellent writer. I had essay scores of 8, 5, and 11. Why the jump from 5 to 11? I readjusted my writing style purely for the SAT, and was awarded an 800 in writing. IMHO it is the easiest section on the SAT.

Her application just went complete a month ago, and right around when the number of applications starts to drastically increase. It will probably take a little while longer, my guess is that you may hear by the end of December. I know this doesn’t help but look at the scheme of things: Most colleges don’t announce acceptance until late March. At least you will hear from Pitt before then.

If I were you, I would have your daughter e-mail OAFA and ask. I think it is rather odd for her not to have heard anything back yet, considering her credentials. It is possible she fell through the cracks somehow. Or else the engineering school is slower?
