I am a senior who plans on applying to UPitt. My stats are most likely good enough to get in (4.0gpa, 2160 SAT superscored), however, I am worried about being considered for scholarships. I heard that in order to be considered for scholarships you should aim to have the following minimums according to their website: top 5% of class, 1400 M + R SAT or 32 ACT, and 3.5-4.0 gpa. Obviously my gpa is high enough and I'm in the top 1% of my class, but unfortunately, my M + R score is 1390.
******So my question is this: Is it worth retaking the SAT in December if I am confident that I can get 1440+ on the M + R, also considering I have taken the SAT twice so far? And if so, should i wait until late December when my scores are available in order submit the rest of my application? Or will all this be too late? Thanks.

Submit your application now, although it would not hurt if you take the SAT in December again and submit that then. It’s possible that they’ll review your December SAT scores for scholarship money.

Yes, you should consider sending your application now and retaking the SAT’s. Last year, my daughter applied early in October and was accepted in late Oct. She took the ACT’s again and improved her score, then contacted Admissions to see if they were still in the process of determining any merit scholarships. They said to go ahead and submit the improved score, and used it towards the scholarship decision.

I think if you apply now you will be closer to the ‘top of the pile’ for review. If you wait until Dec, you may face more competition, especially for scholarship money. Last year, kids with great stats who applied late did not always receive as much as those who applied early.

In my daughter’s case, the scholarship letter did not arrive until mid December. If you look back at threads from last year, it seemed the award letters were staggered, possibly by majors/schools within Pitt.
