SAT/ACT Scores?

Hi,

So, I am applying to UPITT with the priority deadline.
However, I am taking an ACT once more on October 25th but the deadline for the application is Oct.15th
Does anyone know if they would accept the later ACT score?
Also, if they do accept the later ACT score, should I send them the score that I have right now regardless?

Thank you so much.

You should apply now with the score that you have because you need the test score in order to make your application complete. Then send them your new ACT score via the ACT website so that they will receive it as soon as it comes in. Pitt will consider all of your scores and will superscore, so you don’t have to worry about only sending your best scores.

This IS NOT true!! As soon as Pitt receives everything they need for your application (i.e. the application, SAT score, and transcript). It’s considered complete. You can try to add more to it (i.e. letters of rec, resume of activities) but trying to replace your SAT scores once the “complete package” has been forwarded to the admissions committee may not be possible. Like I said before, play it safe and wait for your new scores to come in before you submit stuff. The only thing the priority application does is give you a faster turnaround, nothing more.

Personally, I was told the same thing as @kaylamarie097‌. They encouraged us to apply as soon as possible because applying at the earliest was said to give us the best possible chance of being admitted to the school of our choice, along with priority scholarship consideration and Honors College consideration. Plus, Pitt will consider any and all scores that we have submitted to them and will superscore across tests. I’m not sure what you mean by forwarding an additional SAT/ACT score may not be possible. Because I’m pretty sure they will review all scores that a student sends them, not just the test score sent on your application…

@sebtaylor2, you could send everything but your ACT scores now. That’s what my son did last year, knowing that he was going to re-take the SAT one last time in October 2013. He submitted his application in late September and had all of his SAT scores sent to Pitt after the October test date. Pitt held his application until they received the scores and returned an admission decision shortly thereafter. I told him to wait and submit everything together but he did it his way and it worked out.

November is not too late to be considered for the Honors College or scholarships.

I agree with @AwesomeOpossum that someone from admissions is not going to burst into the committee meeting and yell “Stop the presses! We just received an updated score for StudentXYZ!!!” When your file is complete, it will be reviewed as soon as possible. There’s a thread in this forum about a student who applied early with (self-described) low grades and test scores and was denied acceptance. Don’t let that happen to you just for the sake of meeting the Priority Application deadline.

Sure they will encourage you to apply early - but @AwesomeOpossum‌ is correct - that priority deadline is not THE deadline for apps.

We never said that was the deadline nor that it was too late for Honors College or scholarships. I was just saying they will still review your application at a later date with new test scores/ grades if the ones you have at the time you apply are not enough in most cases, unless they are inextricably low and they send you to a branch campus.

The point is that if you submit an application with low test scores, they are going to make an initial admission decision (admit, no admit, admit to different campus, or ask for later test scores/grades) based on those scores. So if you are worried about a straight no admit or admit to different campus, you will have lost your chance and you should wait to submit until you have a stronger application. There is really no reason not to wait if you are already planning to retake a test or you think you will have better grades/GPA after the fall semester.

Where is the guarantee that Pitt will review new test scores / grades BEFORE a decision is made?

The topic is moot now that the Priority Application deadline has passed, but there is inherent risk in submitting an application and assuming that subsequent information will get added to the file before a decision is made. Why add risk to the equation when the reward is simply the promise of an earlier answer?
