UW moved to holistic admissions review (as opposed to the old SAT/GPA index) for admissions in 2006. They pool applications in small batches, so the applications move along slowly (or more quickly if you happen to be particularly competitive). You should keep in mind that they received 2,000 more applications this year than they had originally expected. Seeing as how there were 18,000+ applications last year, it's not surprising that it takes them a while. As they move through the rest of the applications, you'll probably hear back in the next month.

All three of my kids applied to the UW over the past 8 years. People on CC have been trying to make sense of UDub's admissions schedule ever since I can remember. With the exception of some early admits for exceptionally competitive students (especially OOS--only my unscientific observation), the rhythms of their system have never been understood. As Proud Husky says, they have adopted the holistic admissions review..which just sounds like it will be fairer..and slower. Don't fret. My advice would be to NOT try to figure out the "why's". Just plan on waiting until the end of March to find out. Anything sooner is a nice surprise.
Personally, I think the small amount of info they give you via website just confuses everyone.
Good luck. UDub is a gem.

It probably is hollistic, but they might sort the applicants first based on grades or test scores? Also, there are probably more applicants from inside WA state, so maybe other states will get through more quickly?

You can speculate, ellidn.

ellidn, that could be a way they do it, but i’m not sure of the current statistics on who has gotten in OOS v. IS this year.

Personally, I know over 20 seniors who have been accepted, all IS, and some from public schools and some from private schools. A few are RS students. Some have GPAs/SATs that are close to the 50 percentile, and some have outstanding stats. Most of them applied near the Dec 1 deadline. I have been accepted, myself, but I’m waiting on the Honors program (reach for me) and my major.

i’m SURE you’ll get in. I applied November 10th (ish) and got my acceptance December 8th. Don’t worry. You have a higher GPA then me; I got in with a 540 verbal and 630 math and a 3.93 unweighted gpa. Goodluck!
