Application Is Up!

I'm not sure if this has been posted yet....but if you sign into your MyMIT account, the application for the potential class of 2011 is up!

Interestingly enough, so is the interviewer information....though, it's saying it's too late to book an interview, which means they are probably revamping MyMIT a little bit for this admissions year...but still, cool stuff!

However....now I'm beginning to freak out about colleges.

That's what i see:

Dima1109: You probably saw it after they had corrected it. When noday42 saw it, they were starting to put it up. Looks like everything is set to start the application process again.

I'm really nervous. A part of me is excited, but another is scared. I'm like "Oh my God, I'll be applying for colleges now." It always felt as if it's so far away in the future, but I guess...it's time.

Yea, I just logged into my MyMIT account, and that "bug" seems to be there for me. But they're probably still setting everything up. Yea...time to start applying for colleges. Tommorow I begin to think about my essays and other application details....

oh, thank god I'm not the only one feeling like this. On these forums, it almost feels like everyone knows what they're doing and is all ready to apply and stuff....and though I feel like this sometimes, I'm the oldest of four kids, so this is a first time thing for my family, and I'm totally afraid of what's to come. Good thing some other people feel the same!

Wow. I remember how excited I was when the app came out. I didn't end up writing my essay til october, but still.

It's fine guys. Mit's app is pretty simple.

It doesn't look too complicated. Does anyone else have the message saying that the time to schedule an interview is over displayed in MyMIT?

alienyouth232: I see the same thing us well. I'm sure MIT will fix it soon. :)

Yeah, I'm sure will. There's always a bit of lag on these things.

Advice: start now and work on it bit by bit. Submit it three days early. Otherwise the server dies. It has for the past two-three years consecutively. Don't wait until the last day. The adcom is nice and extends the deadline, but it would be way better for everyone if all the applications got in on time and decisions could start earlier.

ALSO: Someone told me the essay prompts changed... what have they turned into?

MIT
We know you lead a busy life, full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do for the pleasure of it. (100)
Although you may not yet know what you want to major in, which department or program at MIT appeals to you and why? (100)

Tell us about an experience which, at the time, really felt like "the end of the world" -- but had it not happened, you would not be who you are today. Describe the process hrough which you discovered value in the negative. (500)
OR
Describe the world you come from, for example your family, clubs, school, community, city, or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations?

(Completely Optional) Tell us about something that you have created. This can be, for example, a design, a device, an object, an idea or concept. (Please limit your answer to 500 words or fewer)
(Completely Optional) No admission application can meet the needs of every individual. If you think additional information or material will give us a more thorough impression of you, please respond below. (Please limit your answer to 500 words or fewer)

i dont know about all you, but I'm definitely picking the "end of the world" essay.....I read somewhere that demostrating failure/hard times, and how you subsequently overcame said failure/hard times shows a lot of who a person truly is.

besides, the second essay is too open ended for my taste.....it's almost like an AP Prompt.....minus the extensive quoting and analyzation

For the self reported course work, under course title, do we put "English" or something more like "ENGL-310/3: Introduction to Shakespearean Language"?

Also, what level would courses past AP be? Would multivariable calculus be regular college prep? Or should I pick other?

I would be as descriptive as possible and go with the latter. I don't think you even need to include ENGL-310/3 (unless your transcript doesn't provide the full course title).

Honestly, I don't believe it matters. If you're taking it at high school, regular college prep sounds good, otherwise, pick other. Truth be told, the class name speaks for itself, and that's what they'll see.

can somebody post the teacher rec questions? I'm not a student and don't have a myMIT account?

@Mombot: As far as I recall, the teacher recommendation was a series of checkboxes asking teachers to rank students, followed by a comment like "Do you have any reservations about this student?" And then it asks to write a letter on the back or another sheet of paper.

Then again, it's been a while.

WOOO!! YEAH!

party!

hah with the bug, i have the EC guy's info but it still says its too late.

and i agree with pebbles, this is a cause for celebration!

spontaneous dance party

Now i gotta decide EA or RD

Essays are preety easy IMO. I got a nice story to talk about.

End of teh Worlds is a little overdramatic do ya think?

I'm trying to decide between EA and RD too. I really want to do EA. The application seems fairly straight-forward, I'm just nervous about asking for recommendations. I feel like I'm making teachers do extra work :(

Mombot: It's basically like what Olo said. It first asks the teacher to grade the applicant on many things, like character. Then, five short answer questions about the environment and the applicant.

k-mazing: I don't think the teachers will mind. I mean, I'm sure they have written recommendation letters for many students. Plus, I think that maybe, they might honored to write a letter for MIT. I don't know. Maybe, it's just me. I think it will show them that you trust them for something big. But then again, I'm a sixteen year old wierdo. :D
