I am retaking my ACT test in october which will give me scores probably in december (still accepted but past the application deadline). I am really worried that they will skip my first choice major (mech. engineer) and give me my second (aero.) because of my score without even waiting for my second test scores.
Is there any way to keep myself in the loop when i do get my scores back so that they don’t make an early decision?
I wouldn’t worry about it honestly, majority of applicants are in review until late February
not true… they even emailed me that…
Emailed you what? What @SlimShadyLady says is true for the last several years. Even auto admits waited for majors until February in engineering.
They will not put you in a second choice major before February.
The majority of engineering applicants do not hear until February and last year very few got their second choice majors. Those who do not get first choice ended up having to choose from other open majors which were not engineering and also not physics and math.
Well i emailed them asking about getting selected to my 2nd major option before my first. They said that it is very possible (especially with the competitiveness of MechE) that they put me in AeroE instead before my scores for my second test come in.
If that’s true, you’ll be a unique case in the occasional mess of UT admissions. If you view the threads of previous years you’ll notice that auto-admits receive notice of admission to the university within weeks of applying, then end up waiting until February for their majors. Non autos, barring exceptional (national merit, Terry scholars, etc) candidates, hear back in small patches leading up to a huge influx of results around the last week of February. I know that’s probably not what you want to hear, and it might not be the case for you personally, but you asked a question and I answered off anecdotal evidence I’ve observed in my time on this forum.
The people that usually get an earlier decision before February, are the applicants that do not need to retake the SAT or ACT. @SlimShadyLady is right on the money.
There is no loop. Just get your stuff in and submit your scores before Dec. 31 and join everyone else who is waiting for their admissions to major. Some majors went before the third week of Feb but engineering was the third Friday for two years running.
What the the rest of your credentials? I couldn’t find them anywhere. Getting in to engineering is more than Rank and ACT. Your in state, yes? What AP classes and EC’s?
@SlimShadyLady & @Thelma2 . Thanks for the responses… I’m 5th in my class and I have some AP’s as well as a couple dual credits (we just don’t offer as much as others - small school). In state, got some community services/job as well as awards.
That’s funny though because it seems like what I heard was super exaggerated I guess? I’m just really worried… ( 1st gen. American/ 4 year college kid)
I applied to UT last year so I’m pretty sure the process is still the same. I applied Chem Eng and had a 36 ACT. I was an automatic admit into the university (top 4% of my class) but not into Engineering. I still had to wait til mid Feb before I was accepted. I will say UT is a good school but they really don’t care about you as an applicant. They are very arrogant and treat you as only a number. I chose to go to a different university for this very reason.
@funtimes123 thanks
