Any help would be much appreciated!

While we no longer respond to chance me threads (see our featured post in this forum) we can address your first four questions.

1) Yes we offer scholarships although few. We focus more on need-based financial aid than merit aid.

2) All students who apply to W&M are considered for the merit scholarships we offer (whether they apply early or regular decision; whether in or out-of-state). There is no additional application or paperwork needed.

3) We are more selective for out-of-state students. We are a Virginia public university. 65% of our students are Virginian, 35% non-Virginian thus there is more competition for the fewer out-of-state spots.

4) We send all decisions at the same time. If you apply early decision you hear the first week of Dec. If you apply regular decision you hear the first week of April.

Regarding the answer to #2 below: On the website, regarding the Murray Scholarships, it says, “Virginia high schools and select out-of-state schools may nominate individuals to apply for this honor.” Is a nomination required, or not? Can you please shed some light on this process?

Thanks in advance for the clarification.

Can you provide the website where you found that information? That used to be the case (that a nomination from the student’s high school was required) but that hasn’t been the case for several years. All students are considered for the Murray Scholarship.

It is on the page entitled “FAQs for Prospective Students and Their Parents,” in the “Financial Aid” section.

Thanks. We’ve contacted our colleagues in Financial Aid so they can update the web page
