Application Review

I recently finished submitting all my transcripts and scores and what not. According to Minerva, my application reads "Ready for Review/Prêt pour évaluation".

However, I still need to get in my letters of recommendation, and new transcripts that show my updated GPA, not to mention updated SAT/ACT scores.

My questions is, does McGill do rolling admissions? As in, do I still have time to send that all in, or do I have to call up McGill and hope that I can get them to postpone reviewing my application?

don't worry, i doubt they'll touch anything yet. and even if they did, once they get to your application, they will realize you have stuff missing and just skip over your app until you get it all in. on minerva it will say "missing so and so" i think. but to answer your question, yes, mcgill does rolling admission, at least for international students.

Well, actually, nothing's missing, I've already submitted everything McGill wants, its just that I want to submit some more stuff on top of that in order to boost my profile. Does that change anything?

what else do you want to submit?

Like I said before, Letters of Recommendation, SAT scores (I'm retaking the test next month), and a new transcript with an updated GPA (I only just found out after I had submitted the first one that it had changed). My grades are by self-admission a bit on the low end of McGill's admission standard, but I have very good references from my school and teachers and good test marks as well, so I'm confident that, in this case, every little bit can help my chances.

McGill has rolling admission. There is no harm to sending them a message by mail/email stating that you will be submitting more updated transcripts & test scores. Their bottom line is your grades. Make sure your gpa is not any less than last year's min entry mark for the dept to which you are applying. Each year the min mark is higher than the year before. Good luck!

where can you see the min mark

if its rolling how come u find out asnwer only after jan 31

Check the Maclean's Guide to Canadian Universities for this year. For grade cut-offs, check their website. It is different for different faculties: Arts, Science, Engineering, Commerce/Business. At McGill, the cut-off mark for science was 80 in 2002, 82 in 2003, 90 in 2004 and probably even higher in 04 & 05.

What happens if you do not meet the cut off exactly. They asks for a B+ in every science and math course and a b+ avg overall for the faculty of science. In 10th and 11th grade i have taken 3 science courses and 2 of which i got a B+, in tenth grade i got B+ in math ,but b in 11 th grade. ALl my classes were either honors or AP, the highest course available. My test scores are great. 800m, 740v, 700w, US history-750, Biom- 710, M IC- 720. HOw strict are these cut offs is what i am asking

you are probably ok, an email to the admissions office wouldn't hurt

an email about what

The cut-offs are v strict, unlike in the US where there is an extensive application form and where you will be judged on essays, recommendations, test scores, etc. The bottom line is your grades-period! Find out what they were for last year in your faculty and make sure you do better as the cut-offs this year will be even higher.

Yeah they're insane. I was 2nd in my class with almost a 4.0 unweighted GPA and then got 10 pts below the minimum on one SAT II while rocking the others. And I got rejected. Good luck, it sounds like you definitely have a really good shot!

so wouldnt that mean i should get rejected if i have one math grade and one science grade that doesnt meet minimum. Also McGill says on their website that the minimm arent followed all the way

where are the minimums for grades. ive seen the cut-offs for standardized testing

Does McGill have an essay?

no. no essay.
