I put off submitting the application until the final minute and it ends up that I paid for the application at 11:59:58 PM, but the application was submitted at 12:00 AM and now it says that the deadline has passed. Is Columbia sympathetic to this kind of thing if I call them up, or should I not even bother?

What can you say?

“Hey, I procrastinated! I feel so dumb. Would you make an exception for me?”

I would probably not do that. Keep your dignity.

This approaches the same level of the “ohmygoshIspelledawordwrong!” questions…

I don’t think submitting something at 12:00 a.m. on the dot is going to make them use your application as a wastebasket liner. I know I submitted something 2 weeks late for a program (well, it wasn’t at Columbia, but still) and my application was still reviewed. I doubt they’ll be that strict about 1 second. So take a chill pill and relax.

I’m sure its fine! I nearly didn’t apply to Penn since the commonapp was so darn slow, I waited 10 minutes before it got through at 11:59

I’ve looked at this entire college process like a HUGE learning experience, and if they throw your app away, at least you learned not to procrastinate on applications for graduate school and jobs. I believe that everything happens for a reason, I’m sure everything will work out fine though

You sound annoyingly self-righteous. Dignity? Jeez. What can you say? How about, “I missed an arbitrary midnight deadline by 10 seconds and you’re certainly not going to look at my app at midnight tonight, let alone probably for the next couple weeks.”
