AEM is a major in both CALS and SC Johnson School of Business, so is an AEM applicant evaluated for both schools or just CALS?
The issue being that CALS has different standards for admission than the other colleges at Cornell
maybe i am way off, but isn’t SC johnson school of business a part of CALS?
Apparently it is yeah just checking coz CALS is easier to get into then most other colleges at cornell
In looking at the Cornell application instructions, you apply to Business to major in AEM, not CALS. The CALS admissions rate is 15%, so not that much higher than the rest of Cornell, which was 12.7%. The Business acceptance rate though is 2.9%. I would not apply to CALS (or any other Cornell college) if you really want Business - with an admissions rate like that, I expect that the ability to transfer as a non-AEM Cornell student in to AEM is limited. You’re essentially creating two big hurdles, Cornell admission and then AEM transfer admission, to get to your goal.
AEM used to be part of CALS, now it is a joint program between SC Johnson and CALS. When you apply to Cornell, you select a program (school) you want to apply to. In this case it is:
It is also the case for Hotel.
You would not apply to CALS and then apply to AEM. SC Johnson is NOT part of CALS. This is all fairly new, so it may be kind of confusing for people.
AEM’s admissions (even when part of CALS) were always low because most athletes chose AEM during ED. AEM was not a hard program relative to other programs within Cornell.
There is a lot of cross over between Hotel school and AEM. Many Hotelies ended up going into banking and consulting upon graduation. For years it was a back door to get a business degree at Cornell.

@oldfort thank you. So, what is the acceptance rate into the SC johnson business and then the AEM? Is the approx 3% for the SC johnson business? Curious what the AEM is then? thank you
I saw that average ACT scores were 29-33 for CALS and I was just wondering if that applied to AEM mainly.
You misinterpreted my question @nmcorm
