Applied ED to Penn CAS.... What are my chances?

:o Only three more days!

I'm so anxious about decisions coming out and I'm wondering if some of your Penn EDers could "chance" me. You can tell me your reasoning or whatever or say "I think you have a 10% shot" etc. etc. But I'd also love it if you could take a random guess and say either: accepted, rejected, deferred.

White girl from a smaller state

GPA: I think it is just under an A average... like a high, high A-, low, low A (unweighted)

Rank: Top 3%

Course-load: Most rigorous course load my school offers- 9 APs and all honors or CP courses except for a few required electives, (I received 2 5s and a 4 on the 3 AP exams I've taken so far and I'll take 6 AP tests this year).

School: Medium sized private school (not very selective though) that sends a few grads to top schools each year. Usually 0-4 to ivies, and up to 5 others to "ivy-level" schools, a bunch others go to good schools and some kids don't even go to college

ACT: 32

ECs: I definitely don't have spectacular ECs by Penn standards but I am very involved in my school and community and I have one "passion" that easily stands out in my application. I have several leadership positions and I'm very involved in community service.

Essays and Recs: I think these should be good. I think my essay is up to par but I'm not sure if it's good enough to really get me in. My recs should be good. I think one of them will be great and the second might be a little generic unfortuantely. I think my counselor likes me and she'll definitely talk about how I challenge myself academically... she knows me fairly well as a person, but we aren't "tight" by any means.

I'm also a legacy, which I've heard can help but it's not going to get you in unless you are already a strong candidate and your up against someone who looks very similar to you on paper.

So... thoughts? Thanks so much in advance! I know it's a little lame to post these chance threads, especially just a couple days before we are notified... but I CAN"T STOP THINKING ABOUT PENN!

I’d say you’ve got a 50/50 shot. Your stats are very similar to mine and we’re both legacies, ha. If I had to put money on which decision you’ll be receiving on Friday, I’d put my money on “deferred”. But I’d be far more surprised if you were rejected than if you were accepted… so yeah, I think you’ve got a fair shot.

I think you have a 70% shot! everything on your app is flawless and your legacy status will swing you to the “in” pile=]

legacy rate’s about 40% admit, so that helps a lot
Your grades seem to be about average for the applicant pool, ACT above that, workload/rank a little above that.
ECs - passion in one thing is a good thing (depth v breadth), tho some sense of how far you’ve gone into it would make it easier to chance (something on national level? or just local?) Other stuff you do is good as well/
Essays/Recs - Since you’re not so enthusiastic about these, I’d hazard a guess that this’d be the thing keeping you between admit/deferred

About an 80% admit/defer, split 50-50 respsectively

EDIT: err, 50% of 80% lol. Which puts you right at the 40% legacy admit rate

My friend’s mom works at Penn and she said around 4,000 people applied early decision this year, which is apparently a new record. That means the acceptance percentages go down. AHHH I’m so nervous.

haha wait to make the OP feel better about his/her chances, lol.

I don’t think it’s a record number of ED apps, but numbers are up about 6% from last year is I believe what Penn reported… (I think just under 3000 people applied).

it’s 3842 applicants before financial aid ppl were added to the ED pool

Sorry! I meant 4000. Typo.
