Chance me for ED Penn please?!

Hey! I'm trying to get into Penn CAS as a Biological Basis of Behavior major (and though quite irrelevant I guess, I want to minor in International Studies/Politics and Religion, prospectively). I'm going to be applying ED. Do any of you think I have even the slightest shot?
Oh and also, I did research with this doctor thats is along the lines of the BBB major and also my research cited a UPenn professor's case study she did that was really similar to our study sooooo I'm doing that

Anwyay
-I'm a girl
-from NJ
-Indian/Asian (which instantly decreases my chances by like 13%)
-ACT: 34
-SAT: 2250
-GPA(this is where it gets bad): 3.7 -- but I mean I have AD/HD which is now medicinally controlled since the end of 11th grade, so my counselor is putting that in her recommendation for me so I don't have to and sound like a horrible person.
-SAT IIs: Biology - 760;Math IIc- 720;Chemistry-710;Spanish-730

ECs:
- Lab Coordinator/President of Waksman (research club that meets everyday after school and requires a lot of individual effort to succeed so it takes up all of my time)
- individual research in Waksman published to NCBI over 3 times and presented posters (3 years in a row) about various protein structures to scientists and others at GE Healthcare
- Model UN delegate (4 conferences;extremely competitive at my school)
- International Club (we are basically a group of indians and egyptians who host a school-wide talent show -which is actually quite successful- to showcase talents of all types and cultures or some crap)
-National Honors Society
-Volunteered at Hospital: Brain Injury, Burns unit, ER, Indigent Care, Pediatric Rehab, Pediatric unit, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, and Medical Chart Library (will expand much more in resume)
- Did a bunch of research with doctors at above hospital and those papers were published to various medical journals; topics included Catamenial Pneumothorax, Necrotic Tissue Due to Drug Use, Effects of Cocaine Usage on MRI Scans, and Effects of Breast Cancer Chemotherapy and Menopause on Cognition (this is the one with the penn prof)
- Gold Presidential Award in Community Service
- TOPSoccer (Teach disabled children how to play soccer)
- Travel soccer since I was 13 -- did school freshman soccer team, but quit because I hated everyone (i probably shouldn't mention my hatred because that shows bad people skills i guess, but I promise i'm really good with people!)
- volunteered at my Pediatrician’s Office ( its sucked so much; it convinced me that I never want to do a 9 to 5 office job- its horrible)
- Indian Cultural Society (not through school- community thing-member from age 8 to 16 and then dance choreographer for little kids for which i got volunteer hours)
- Tutored algebra and biology to two kids at barnes and noble
- attended UMDNJ SMART program and Mini Medical School for 1 year and 2 years, respectively
- I play guitar and sing, for fun mainly but I was in chorus since 9th grade and got into honors choir but had to drop this year due to vocal cord probs)
- Intern for NGO that educates orphans in India (I plan to actually go to India next summer for this)
- I invest in the stock market (my dad told this was a good thing.... I don't know if its even relevant)
-Finally, (and probably the only remotely outstanding this here) I started my own online business and it is set to formally launch later this year

So, is this good enough? Or should I not even try to ED for Penn? Please let me know!! Thanks :)

I’m quite impressed. I’m assuming you were a co-author on the published papers? You’re a desirable applicant. Don’t think your GPA is low. Does your school differentiate between A-
and A’s? Just get a good essay and I think you have a fair chance. Thanks for chancing me by the way =]

Only downfall is the GPA, otherwise I’d say you’re one of the few where Penn would be a low reach! Also, don’t mention things like “tutored 2 kids at barnes” or choir for one year but then dropped, doesn’t show commitment/aren’t that important. Luckily you have a ton of other ECs so seriously select the ones that really matter that you want on your college app.
You also quit soccer? Don’t mention it. Did you quit the doctor job? Maybe mention it and put a spin on it. Invest in the stock market does not count as an EC. You’re online business will need to follow all the legal procedures and be substantial enough to mention in an essay/interview.

imo, i would say apply regular only because your gpa is slightly on the lower side. counselors at my school often advise that students with lower gpa should try to veer away from early in order to study really hard for the first mid-year and get good grades. that way, gpa-wise, you’ll look better since it is such an important factor in admissions.

btw im thinking of applying to upenn RD for CAS on earth science or mathematics…kinda iffy on biophys

I disagree. You should still apply early. If Penn feels they need to see first semester grades, you will be deferred. If you are rejected early, you almost definitely would have been rejected RD, even if your grades had improved.

@damianknight: thank you so much for taking the time! And yes, I was named as a co-author on the research I did at the hospital, but I was a sole author on the research published to NCBI through Waksman. And no problem :)

@smarty99: thank you so much for all of the feed back!! My business, hopefully, is substantial enough. I am getting a bunch of sellers in India to basically have a market here and sell through my website and attract possible wholesale buyers here (well thats the plan). I am currently trying to get all the legal things to fall into place, but its difficult being under the age of 18 and I need my mom to sign off a bunch of things for me which is so embarrassing :frowning: But, that will soon be over next year on my 18th birthday! But again, that was extremely helpful, thank you so so much!

@whatkneww: alright, thanks for the idea. I was actually considering that as well, but I can always send in my mid-year report as supplementary information later on-- in fact my first quarter gets done early november, so I can even send those grades in. Also, UPenn really is one of the only schools where you have a significant advantage when it comes to ED. Anyway, good luck with your application, hope to see you there haha!

@Poeme: I agree, thank you!

Dang I have a similar situation. Can you chance me at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1516964-chance-high-sat-low-gpa-kid.html
