i love asian stereotypes... haosquared, u sound a lot like my sister... her room is a mess... but yea... my parents... if i'm typing a paper or something, they'll feel obligated to stand by me and read it, which is really annoying, and they'll critique it and give bad suggestions... but i guess all parents do that to some degree

hao^2 - WORD lol

afaforce - that's an cool quiz thing, I somehow got 119 years haha

cujoe...i'm actually not messy...merely that my mom is a neat freak. if i have some hw on the floor and a t shirt in my bed and a pair of socks on the ground, it's a "disaster zone".

I'm the only one from my school and its 15 minutes away. YAY, I was so happy when I heard that no one else applied.

wow that awesome, we have at least 17 people from my school applying to Penn...

last year apparently we had 35
and of those, 5 got in... 4 who applied early and 1 who was um.... a really good URM.. but hey she deserved it =)

WOW 119 years lol

yeah my mom never reads my stuff... and they know how p/o-ed i'd get if they told me nobody would want to marry me if i can't cook/clean
i've told my rents i'm gonna hire some1 to do all that for me (yeah yeah i'm dreaming)

why is it easier to get in if you are from PA? Don't they want to create diversity though?

it's easier to get in if you're from philly
because they want to have good relations with the city, to take some of the kids and make em smarter so they'll give back to the school/city, stuff like that

also, Penn has a contract w. Philly that they have to accept a certain number of Philly kids in order to get some state funding (or something...it has to do w. money).

oh come on... that sucks so bad... i wish i lived in philly, actually cornell has a similar system where the cas accepts more NY applicants as well

oh u bet. cas... land grant stuff... it's so much cheaper to go to cornell cals and IL (or w/e they are..) if you're from NY.. pretty awesome.

yea, i don't think colleges should put any weight on geography or race... hence screwing us asians over

haha, i know where ur comin from...im URM but still stand no chance at cornell or upenn(1050 SAT, 2.8).....holler back

I just don't think giving a person an advantage JUST because of race is fair. If the person is first generation to go to college and came from a very poor economic background then he/she SHOULD get some benefit. Race alone, tells nothing about a person. With Affirmative action, oftentimes rich priviledged URMs are getting more edge than poor non URM with disadvantages.

yea, but actually by instituting affirmative action , most of those minorities getting in are disadvantage. i dont think you understand the socio-economic disadvantage and educational standards that have been set for URMS as a result of the past. AA seeks to change that. its not that im advocating it or anything...i checked " other" in the box, even tho im black. but i dont believe its right for me to say im african american since im Sudanese, and my ancestors werent slaves

I wish everyone had those ethics. I'm Asian but I didn't try to put down other for a perceived advantage like many of my Asian friends.

Anyway, LET'S PLEASE STOP THIS AA DISCUSSION NOW.

If anyone wants to keep duking it out, go to the thread URM Chances. Let's not destroy another nice place to hang out and chat with such a divisive issue. I like this thread a lot. :)

lol...." for shizzle"

SO does Penn have AA for legacies and Philidelphians but not URMs?

Because..........?

btw AA = alcoholics anonymous, right?

Philadelphia must have really fallen on bad times. I'm really sorry to hear it.

Anyhow, I think that is true compassion. I have an uncle who could have used just such a break.

hahaha, yea, sorry to bring up that topic guys... i just hate the "model minority" stereotype set on asians
