hehe yeah China's volleyball team hasn't won a medal since 1984!

oh yeaaaa the olympics. i forgot about that. they won right? i have such a bad memory for things.

omg, YES!!! I LOVED IT!!! though I was so disappointed in the gymnastics team. On a purely girl note, those athletes look so cute and dainty. It was hard to believe some of them were older than me at the time.

yeah same, I read this article about why they were performing so poorly. It said something about how they were too nervous and lacked practice under pressure. And In US, only gymnasts who can perform well under great pressure will advance in the olympics.

hmm, that makes sense. it's like the whole chinese system. pressure to do well in a sterile environment but risky success in the real world. kind of like chinese academics and mit nerds (not you mitchell)

oh yes, the gymastics team. the memories are flowing back now. both the women's (well, girls) and men's teams sucked a ss. oh the pain of remembering. what happened?? they're supposed to be good. my parents (who are into sports ALOT) said the guys on the men's team were a whole new bunch and were inexperienced and etc.

how about that paul hamm scandal huh? i still think he should have given the medal to the korean guy. i mean, come on, forget about winning here. the olympics are about promoting world peace and creating unity (even if it's just in sports) and hamm's stubborn ego is just creating more conflicts.

yeah the men's sucked but Yang Wei should have won that medal. I felt so bad for him for messing up on that very last event.

hehe I don't really know the whole story behind Paul Hamm's thing but I heard that the judges were a bit bias towards American athletes. You know that Russian gymnast Svetlana, she complained about it because she got lower points than Carly Patterson even though she thought that she did just as well.

I can understand Hamm's argument about keeping it only if I put on my I'm a selfish bastard glasses. I agree that unity is more important than even an olympic gold. jeez, the koreans already hate the americans for winter olympics 02, let's just keep adding to the animosity.

It's ok, I forgive you Catch-22.

I think I watched 3 of the games involving China including the final. The last one was definitely the best with that amazing comeback. I love Russia's coach, the "howling bear".

i see we're already on page 12. o.0

I remember that! I was so nervous when I though China was going to lose I couldn't watch. I actually had to tape it and watch it later only AFTER I found out that China had won.

haha yeah watching those vb games made me nervous too, especially after Zhao Rui Rui (that really tall starting player) got injuried.

Too bad China didn't get to play US this time.

China did get to play US...it was the opening game I think (am I correct? I think I am) and US got schooled.

yeah true but I meant the real olympic games. The next olympics at Beijing should be interesting ;)

Yeah, I watched the China-US game. China won in three straight sets.

One thing I found interesting was the medal-ranking system. US would rank it by who got the most total medals. While internationally they rank it by who had the most gold medals, and we know that China only racks in Golds (thanks to those amazing superhuman female weightlifters and that ping pong team) ;)

yea, that russian vb coach was so mean. my mom remarked on how you shouldn't really yell at ur girls like that because it lowers their self esteem and motivation.

Did we forget the first Chinese guy to EVER win a "running"/dash (don't know the exact name) comp??? I can't believe I forgot his name...but...that was unbelieveable...I jumped up and down when he won...WOW.

Yeah, I saw that. It was incredible. Also the 2 man rowing team that won. That was hilarious. The commentators were like "Who won? Was it the germans or the british?" when it was obvious that the chinese guys crossed first.

omg i remember it all now! that dasher/hurdler was freakin' awesome. he came out of nowhere! all i remember was that before the race, i was like 'hey, there's actually a chinese guy for track'. i was not expecting him to win at all and as soon as the race started, he came out of nowhere and i was like '***?! he's freakin awesome!'

my mom (who ran in high school and was really good) was like "watch him test positive for steroids."

yeah that was pretty amazing but I can't believe how much money and effort China spent on him. China is of course not that rich and they could've used those billions for the goods of the people. He had potential but I hate how the communists just trained him with all their effort to get a medal to boost their reputation.
