did they really spend a lot of money on him? tell me about what happened there...

yeah they spent like billions to buy him all the equipments like hundreds of cameras, timers, and all those other expensive track stuff and technology. They also hired tons of ppl like trainers and doctors and coaches just for him.

lool, wow this thread was taken over by the chinese. its entertaining tho, china's very interesting

it's the ASIAN INVASION

is there any other kind worth noting?

not just azn invasion but more specifically, CHINESE DOMINATION. i've never encountered such a place so full of pride as you guys are (and i'm kinda getting into it) besides china iself. it's actually been really nice talking to all you azns from the homeland.

I know what you mean canadia. this makes me really excited for penn and all the future possibilities that it entails. I love all my friends dearly but they just don't get it when I talk about China and its culture and its little quirks. It's refreshing to talk to people who don't share the same paradigm but it's also really really nice to know that someone else out there can relate to you.

yea, i'll have to wait a year or so before i apply to penn. now i really want to go, not just for the because-it's-penn thing but also for people like you guys. i've never seen discussions like this in other ivy forums (or maybe i just haven't looked hard enough).

haos^2, i totally agree with you on the friends thing. i am 1/4 asians in my class of approx. 200 (total white preps domination). 1 doesn't even count b/c hes vietnamnese and was born here so he's more of an azn wannabe; another girl is korean; there's only one other chinese person besides me (and he came when he was like 1 yrs old). so technically, i'm the only really chinese person in my grade. my friends are all white and jewish (since they're the only ones in existence at school) but i still love them. i find jewish people and chinese people have a lot in common.

ditto on that. i'm in a class of about 400 students and we have about 10 asians in our grade and i'm like the only mainland chinese kid. you guys rock =)

Mao zedong was one crazy motha trucka, wer're studying him in history.

I did a report on him in 8th grade and the teacher let me do it all in Chinese...I made up so much crap to say like "Chairman Mao dressed up like a woman and danced on tables" and she still gave me a 100. Said it was an "awesome" presentation. Hehe...one of my favorite memories.

wait, a report in chinese for and american teacher?? was this in america or in china?

whoaa there... mao was not crazy.

CHina didn't spend A LOT of money on the runner. They were NOT expecting him to win...he was just some random runner who trained at home/school...but now he is getting a gazillion dollars.

Mao Ze Dong...a literary GENIUS.....his poetry is like absolutely DEVINE...it's like a sense of greatness...Breathtaking...

yeah I know what you mean. I used to lived in a ghetto place where I was the ONLY Chinese person. I never cared much about my Chinese heritage and culture stuff when there was no one around who was into it. I like the my current enviroment where there are lots of Asian and non-Asian people.

catch22 - really? It was in an article I read

haha actually Mao was pretty crazy when he was younger.

Yea really. I swear, I've read a bazillion articles/saw interviews. They were not expecting anything from him, the camera crew was there with his family to see him run, but didn't expect much...He didn't have any kind of "professional" training, and just qualified because he qualified. The cameras and stuff were in his house AFTER the win and stuff...serious. His family was dirt poor (not anymore)...like his grandpa was watching him, and I think cried when he won (his whole family-in chinese terms, inclusive of granps, parents, bro, sis, uncle, aunt- lived in some run down house w. two bedrooms...)

I think the report must be AFTER the win...now they are gearing him up for the '08...

I love Mao's poetry (no...i'm not a commie..)...but, some of his stuff leaves you breathless after reading it...it's REALLY THAT GOOD.

yeah, a report in an American school...we were doing biographical book reports.

Mao is an interesting character who can be both vilified and admired. I'm kind of on the fence about him since my grandparents actually suffered a lot when he took power.

my favorite thing about him were his agricultural theories.

Hmm I read the exact opposite. It said that they did spent a lot training him and it was professional training. Did you read your articles from here or China? I know that the ones published in China doesn't tell about it because they don't want the people to know.
Well he won, thats all it matters now lol

yeah one side of my grandparents really hate him for his cruel dictatorships.

not to mention the mass starvation he caused because of his " genius" agricultural reforms.
