Big2...any asians/Chinese here know how to play that?

lol no.. im still mastering zheng1 shang4 you2 mind games... haha

icystarlight, big 2 IS zheng shang you

that's like the first card game i ever played.

My favorite is Jian Feng (collect points? I guess that's what it literally translates to) or the variation, Zhao Peng You.

for non chinese card games, my fav is of course, Texas Hold 'Em. Spades and Gin/Rummy are also fun

Tuo La Ji!!!! Anybody play that? I dunno, my cantonese translated-over-mandarin dialect Chinese thingy might vary...but it is the BEST gambling card game...sorta like Big 2, but you play with like a few sets of poker instead of just one.

this has turned into an asian dominated card games thread. go superazns! w00t!

screw the cards/mah jong type/brain-using games... chinese checkers dominates over all.

That's no good. Chinese Checkers...do you mean "Xiang Qi?"...I think that's CHinese Chess. Meh.

Card games are better...everyone, we should have a chinese card game night once you guys are at Penn...

hahaha athlon it is?! mm shows u how much i know about fobby translations. speaking of which, englishto chinese movie translations are awesome. my parents were watching "the day after tomorrow" on bootleg dvd the other day and u know what it was translated to? "hou tian."

lol catch, im totally up for that. my bf at columbia says that they had this big zheng shang you tourney and the winner got an ipod!

catch, I've never played tuo la ji, but one of the movies in Zheng Shang You is called a tou la ji. it's where you play like "777888" or "334455".. or a variation.

hou tian! hahaha... well i guess it works. i'm up for card games anytime :)

I have that bootlegged copy..."Hou Tian"...hahaha. It took me a while when I was watching these CHinese commentary shows to get what movie they were talking about, and then, it all came to me.

Tuo La Ji...ya...I def. have to get good at it (my parents are teaching me...crazy asian parents and their friends), we'll def. play cards (chinese style) at Penn. No doubt.

maybe i meant chinese chess... the marble thing with the hexagonal-star board.

That's Chinese checkers. Chinese Chess is like English style chess, but different...used to know how to play it...meh.

BTW, the Chinese kids totally invaded this thread and turned it into "Bonding-Time"...such a culturally reassuring experience...haha.

I play this crazily addictive online Chinese bomber man game (a lot better than bomber man) where we try to bomb each other...you guys should check it out.

I've never met a Chinese person. I live in podunk-nowhere, Alabama. However, I took Japanese for two semesters. It was so dang awesome! I wish I were Asian. ::sigh:: A girl can dream right?

koreactor12... aren't you korean? therefore an asian?

catch - what chinese bomber game are you talking about? url?

Pao Pao Tang!!!!! hahaha. It's FREAKIN' ADDICTIVE!!! You get to pick these cool characters and pick rooms you go into, and play w. ppl. They put you in teams by colors, and you try to bomb the other team. You work your way up the levels! Addictive!!! BOMB!!!!!! MUWHAHAHAHA!!! (I admit, I got a little bit carried away).

http://bnb.poptang.com/newbnb/homepage.htm

Download the package...it's pretty big. But, your desktop has to be in chinese font, or it's gonna go all screwy on u. It's addictive...

looking at pao pao tang reminds me of GUNBOUND, any of you guys play it?

i'm still attempting to read what it says. a first grade education in china did me no good. :'(

i gave up on reading/writing a long time ago. I suck at speaking too.

BANANAS!...haha...JK. I came here while I was finishing up 2nd grade in China. Taught myself all the way, self-studying these High School text books my parents got for me from China. I love the literature. Esp. the poetry. I love the language...glad I kept it up. But a lot of my friends have completely forgotten it.

my speaking is fine... although if you say something really convoluted, i probably won't understand it if there are college-level words. the thing with me is that i can't read, and i can't write... some people can at least read! i'm so ashamed! my chinese actually got better when i visited china before 7th grade. the first few weeks, i stuck to gesturing such as pointing and shaking or nodding my head because i was too shy to say anything. then BAM! two weeks later, it all came back to me. then i had to leave so i never picked up reading or writing. dammit. i'll start now... it's not too late.

its never too late, im trying to brush up on my chinese too
