Hello,
I'm not one of those top students but I am above average academically. Anyways, I applied to various colleges and got accepted to one almost immediately (said college's standards weren't precisely high and I knew I would get in anyways). I was called a few weeks back that I was eligible for a honors program in it. The problem stems from the fact that the colleges that I genuinely want to be in have yet to send me any confirmation on my application (these colleges might be considered a slight reach for me). Supposedly they are to be handed out on April 1th and, to add to my dilemma, it is the date in which said honors application is due.
I told the official I was waiting for a response from the other colleges I applied to (and according to my mother, I probably incriminated myself by doing so) but that I would discuss it with my parents.
To cut this short, should I apply for the honors program or will doing so bind me to said college even if I am accepted to one that I would rather go to?

The honors program at many schools is non-binding so I don’t see why this one would be binding… I’m sure you can ask them to be sure, and then definitely apply.

Applying to an honors program in not binding. There’s no Honors program police out there going to drag you into their program.

Get your honors app in ASAP.

What college is this?

BTW…don’t offer info that isn’t asked (and you don’t owe an answer to every question that’s asked, either). The college didn’t ask you about other colleges. Learn now to offer as little as possible in life. You don’t owe people your life story or business.

And adding on to mom2collegekids, whenever I am dealing with a college be it at an interview or on the phone with a college rep, I always make sure I make it seem like their college is very important to me and I am seriously considering it (which I usually am) but still you don’t want sound like you don’t care. That said, I’d still apply to the honors program. You need to have all your bases covered (I made that mistake a couple months back and learned the lesson the hard way).
