will that significantly decrease my chances of getting in since it’s an impacted major? would it be safer if I pick a second choice for major then switch majors if I do get in?

UCD is one of the schools that do not admit you according to your major. If bio is full, you’ll get your second choice. Plus, you can always change your majors during the school year. No rush now.

That is partially incorrect. Procrastinate is right that your major does not effect your admission, however BioSci does have higher admission standards than the rest of the university so the probability of being admitted as your second major is more likely. If you pick two choices in the College of Biological sciences and do not meet the admission standards for both you will be put in the Undeclared program.
