Applying as an in-state resident: Advantage or disadvantage?

I know that Brown has only a mere 4% RI residents in its student body. I was wondering if anyone know if it might be more difficult for an in-state resident to get in? I go to a boarding school in another state so I never spend much time in RI.
But anyway, any thoughts?

No difference. Brown is a private university. Residency only matters for public (state) schools.

I think that for the sake of promoting good town-gown relations, Brown looks kindly at Rhode Island residents. I honestly don't know if the acceptance rate is higher for RI residents. Since you go to a boarding school out-of-state, I don't know whether you'd be considered an instate resident -- perhaps you would, I just don't know. I'm sure that GC at RI HS know -- but you aren't at one of those, so that doesn't help you.
