Hmm..residing in rhode island..an advantage?

Hm…i notice in U.S. News America’s Best Colleges that 95% of Brown admissions are from in-state… is this a preference admission officers choose?

Princeton Review's book says that 96% of students are from OUT of state, so I think you have that statistic backwards. Still, 1 in 20 from in-state for an ivy league school is pretty good, especially for a state the size of Rhode Island. :)

princeton review's book seems to have a lot of strange...stats. well im not reading wrong or going blind ;)..so i guess one of our books have it wrong eh billybobby? does someone know for sure which one it is? thanks

I know a lot of ED PLMEs are from RI.

Not a lot, but like 12 out of 20.

that stat is backward or something, OP

I have the 2003 edition of Princeton Review and it says that 96% of students at Brown are from OUT of state. I truly did not have to look here to know that you had the statistics backwards. There is NO IVY or other elite school where the majority of applicants are from in state. These schools pride themselves on diversity. Kids come from every state and numerous countries. I am sure if you went to Brown's website, you could find a breakdown of regions that the students come from. My D goes to Brown. I can think of only one friend of hers from RI. Her friends come from across the country and from around the world. One of the things she really likes there is the diversity. When I dropped her off the other day, I noticed friends from the previous year running into her on the street and hugging and welcoming back....they were all colors and many nationalities and from all over. So, only about 4% of students at Brown are from RI. That is still a decent percentage given the size of RI and the diversity of the student body.

oh..thanks guys for clearing that up.. is it easier to get into Brown ED Biology, or Cornell ED CALS?

um, ease has nothing to do with deciding whether you want to do ED. It's whether you really want to go there. And if you don't get in...RD awaits.
