Will living in Rhode Island increase my chances?

I live in Georgia(which might be an underrepresented state, I’m not sure) and my parents said I can move to whatever state I want. I’ve always wanted to live in Rhode Island, which is part of the reason why I want to go to Brown. So if I live in Rhode Island, will it increase my chances at getting in?
What areas/states are better for getting into a college like Brown, or does it not even matter at all?

You’re honestly going to move to a place just so that you have a better chance at getting into college?
I don’t think that Rhode Island would increase your chances at all.

No…
I said this in my first post, “I’ve always wanted to live in Rhode Island…”
I just wanted to know if it would help if I did live there though.

Yes, but you also asked which states would increase your chances, leading me to believe that you were planning on moving to a place that would give you an advantage.

Oh, I can see what you mean now.
I just thought it would be interesting to know.

I live in RI and there is a rumor that Brown takes all valedictorians. I don’t believe that is true but I do have a suspicion that Brown tries to get someone from all parts of RI. I remember our valedictorian did get into Brown.

I have heard that at several places also.
I’m currently ranked #1 in my class. Seems interesting, I’ll try and look more into it later.

The Dakotas. Admissions counselor’s love saying that they have people from all 50 states. Kids from the Dakotas are rare.

I know the valedictorian rumor is not true. I know that a few years back an RI valedictorian (at a very good school) did not get into Brown (but she was accepted by Harvard).

However, Brown is known for favoring Rhode Island students.
Copied from an email from Brown admissions last year:
“the admit rate for Rhode Island students is slightly higher than our overall admit rate that is around 13%”

Thanks ri1391, I always thought that was a rumor only. Interesting, would have thought that the exceptence rate for in-state is lower (always figured lots of RI’ers applied).

move to alaska
you’ll definitely stand out

that’d stand out too:0

Or, like, Idaho.

I actually have two friends that moved to Alaska, but I’d rather not move there just to get an edge in admissions.

Omg they moved to Alaska to get an edge… Pathetic

it will really help if you move to california, massachusettes, or new jersey-- trust me

If it works, how is a minor and temporary inconveniance which might increase your chances from 12% to 13% (ie, a ~10% increase) pathetic?
Considering what useless junk other people do to increase their chances.

Or Hamilton, Ontario, Canada?

@Korean_dreamer
I was actually born near there.

No, they didn’t move because of that.
They moved because their parents got a job there; they didn’t really want to move.

@ negru: you don’t find that pathetic? College isn’t everything. Besides this is undergrad. Not even as important than grad. If you don’t find that pathetic I wonder what pathetic things you did… And probably failed
