I posted this on parents board but I would like some of your reactions...

My S already applied to FSU as advice from multiple sources indciates this is the way to go ..we supported him in this decision and proofed his application. (so we didnt fly solo)

well it is the first day of school today and my my son's guidance counselor scolded S for applying online without his (GC) involvement- OK.

he prefers to see the apps before they are sent...we did know this but we couldnt reach him over the summer but he was oos and not avail at all . quite simply made the decision it was better for S to apply in august...

my son said the gc (Sounded like in a firm tone) to show up in his office tomorrow to discuss..I told DS not to worry be honest this was advice you recvd and what your parents felt was best for you........

on one hand i admire gc dedication, but on the other applying early was in my son's best interests.

what is your reaction to this??? how involved is your s/d gc?

My son's guidance counselor did nothing at all. I even had to go directly to the county to make sure the transcripts were electronically sent to FSU. Don't fret about hurting the GC's feelings. As long as you are sure all of the required materials ACT/SAT/CLEP/AP scores, resume', essay, transcripts, letters of recommendation have arrived, your son should be fine. Definitely applying early is the best way to gain admittance and scholarship money.

thanks for feedback cybermom. the college admissions process sure is a thrill ride. one would think more people worry about gc that don't get involved as opposed to this. i know based upon all i have read and from the adcoms at the school applying early is best for S. He also has a tough sr schedule, works pt and while he is a good student most of his dear friends are the very top in class. i think applying early to school has taken some pressure off and given him some confidence.

Our daughter's guidance counselor was also weak compared to the knowledge we have about FSU as alumni. I strongly suggest being your child's advocate and ensuring they have the latest and best information.

I also had to run down dual-enrollment transcripts FSU wanted when the high school should have coordinated the delivery - at least in part. They did not help at all.
