Applying for Housing

If I put “the suites” on my app for housing, is that holmes/mccabe or stadium suites or both?

I know what holmes is, and assume mccabe is similar. Feedback on stadium suites?

“The Suites” = Holmes/McCabe, Freshman can’t live in Stadium Suites and if you’re not in honors you obviously can’t stay in Holmes ha

Well it looks like I’m probably not getting any of my top picks then… wonderful.

tigerin13, there are about 150 rooms in McCabe that are open to freshmen. The ROTC and AFROTC living learning take up about 30 of those. So depending on the date you put in your original application to Clemson (the one that opened August 1st), you may still have a shot!

To be honest going back I’d probably rather live in the Shoeboxes/High Rises as opposed to Clemson House or suites like McCabe. With those dorms because the rooms are so nice, people stay in their apartments/suites as opposed to interacting with their residents. So whatever you pick, don’t worry too much about it. It’s freshman year and the whole dorm experience is pretty cool. I lived in an apartment (Calhoun Courts) freshman year and while it was nice, I missed out on the hall experience. You have 3 other years to live somewhere really nice.

I was rather late…

My son heard last week that he will be in the RISE (residents in science and engineering) living and learning community and will be in Lever Hall. He will also be part of the FIRST program (first generation college student) that begins this week with orientation and lasts 9 days on campus. He will be in Byrnes Hall and I can’t thank Clemson enough for offering this program.

How did he find out his housing assignment? Just through email? Most people won’t have theirs for a while yet.

students living in Living-Learning Communities find out their housing assignments earlier than other students (I think the LLC’s select their students and then give the rest to housing to be placed in the remaining spaces)

Expect to find out in mid-July where you’ll be living (think it’ll be email)

Is Holmes Hall considered LLC?

yes the Calhoun Honors College is an LLC - Holmes might be a case though where you don’t find out till mid-July though.

That’s kind of what I figured. Thanks!

D received housing assignment yesterday. Bryan mall was top choice and she got Manning corner room. She had late October app date with no preselected roommate.

Shoeboxes. Young Hall. Not even on list of choices but it is what it is. We will make the best of it.

There once was a time where Clemson House and McCabe weren’t freshman housing options back in 2009 and the Shoeboxes/High Rises were the best housing options available haha

Nothing wrong with living in the Shoeboxes - great location (up the hill from the football stadium, next to dining hall, Fike Recreation Center, close to a bunch of classes)

My kid’s first choice was Shoeboxes…go figure. Cope Hall (any good?).

S got into McCabe (first choice). Both he and his roommate applied for admission on August 1st, the day it opened. That was to try and get preferred housing :)

For anyone interested, this was actually the first year Holmes filled up. I have several friends (and myself) who were put in johnstone although most of us have gotten back into Holmes. Didn’t really worry about application date, but in the future, its important!

Apparently this happened because we just had our largest honors class ever this year.
