Applying for Housing

Should I have already turned in my housing choices/information? I don't know if I am attending UT or not (though I did get accepted). Am I supposed to wait until I have decided that I am going for sure before I reserve any housing? I am wondering this specifically because I saw that they take room reservations beginning back in September.

well...you might not get the dorm you want, the longer you wait....some places are already filled up....but if you dont care too much about where you are staying, you still have time because there are lots of people that dont even know if they are accepted yet...

Are off-campus dorms such as the Castilian hard to get? Also, if I want to live in Castilian, should I go ahead and apply for a room there before I have decided to go to UT?

ya... i'm wondering that too.... your talking about that tall blue building w/ the private dorms, right?

i was hoping not to apply to UT but my ED choice didn't work out and i still haven't applied for housing (i'm an idiot, my counselor told us over and over and over to apply for housing at midnight the day it was available even if we weren't considering applying there at the time)

so ya... anyone have some info on the private dorm availability?

We were visiting the campus just yesterday and did a tour of Dobie. They indicated plenty of places available currently, but that it starts to fill up in March and April (I think when college options start narrowing down).

san jac and most of jester and the more sought-after dorms fill up rapidly. dan jac, actually, was filled within hours on Sep. 1.
towers costs slightly more than everywhere else, but has the best facilities and the biggest rooms. well worth the extra couple of hundred per year.

none of the good on-campus dorms are available anymore, but most of the private dorms will still have rooms, such as Castilian, Dobie, and maybe Towers.

jester will prob. be available past may...but it'll be supplemental, which isnt good at all...but neither is jester

What are the good on campus dorms?
(other than san jac, I mean)

people value different things in their housing. everyone wants to live at San Jac though, and they can't. my friend lives at Moore-Hill (all male) and really enjoys it

Can you give me a brief overview of the on campus dorms?
From the pictures on the UT website the dorms that look nice are andrews, carothers, whitis other than of course san jac.

Those that don't, are jester (especially what i've heard on this board) and maybe brackenridge.

moore-hill is not all-male anymore.

the only good on-campus dorms are san jac and duren whenever that gets built

Are you saying that all the other on campus dorms other than san jac and duren are crappy?

I'm sure they have different degrees of crappiness......

So which ones are the LEAST crappy?

they all kind of fall into the same category of "acceptable" after San Jac and the Jester private bathrooms-rooms - just read about them and the student quotes on the UT site and make your best estimation of where you'd like to live. also consider location on the campus
