So I just got accepted through an appeal this week, but I was almost sure I wouldn't get it so I didn't even bother applying for housing. So I'm thinking about my options now. Help? I really kinda wanted San Jacinto but that's not happening lol.

Options:

1) Apply for housing and room with my bestie at Moore-hill. I want to be able to live on campus my freshman year, but I don't know if I want to LIVE with my best friend.

2) Apply for housing at Jester and do a roommate search?

3) Offcampus: I was thinking about Dobie, just because the most important thing is the distance from campus for me. How does it compare to the on-campus dorms?

You’re right, you won’t get San Jac, but you will probably get housing on campus. If I were you, I wouldn’t room with my best friend.
You could easily apply for housing on campus and do a roommate search. Try the Texas 2013 facebook group; there’s a whole thread on roommate searches. You may find someone who applied for housing really early, so you will be moved up to his/her spot.
As for off campus, I don’t know anything about it! Sorry.
I just got accepted off the wait list so i’m in a similar situation. But I definitely want to live on campus.

Dobie and Castilian are the 2 closest off-campus choices. Dobie is closest to the business schools. Castilian is closest to most others – its right across the street from the student union – 24th street.

I just got my contract for a long session, but I’m hesitant to accept it because I don’t know if I want to live in the dorm for both semesters. Is there a way I could change it for only fall?

They won’t allow you to sign a one-semester contract but they don’t really punish you for leaving because they need the space.

However, you aren’t going to have much luck finding an apartment in December because leases are August to August or June to June. You definitely won’t have much luck getting one with specific roommates you want.

If you move into a dorm room, plan on staying for the academic year.

Camille, The Castilian offers Fall-only spaces but they only have a limited # of them available. Also, if you wanted to live in an apartment, there will be all sorts of openings this spring. There is a lot of spaces available and people wanting to sublet every spring.
