I will be applying this upcoming fall. I will have over 60 units completed, IGETC fully completed, pre-reqs for all the school completed. An opportunity has came up that would allow to leave in January 2014 and go teach English to children in Thailand for 6 months. This program is not connected in any way with any study abroad program, it's just something that I would like to do. Would this in any way be seen as a problem by any of the schools? I'll be applying to UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCSB, UCD and UCSC.

It shouldn’t be a problem. Call each school just to double check.

I’ve read several posts on here that say that UC Davis is the only school that cares about that sort of thing. But those have been posts in response to if UCD cares about being full time in the final semester. Not sure if that also applies to not taking any classes at all.

I had spoken to a UC Berkeley rep regarding this and she said it is perfectly fine not to take courses during spring if you have your full 60 units.
