Applying Late.

Is anyone on here applying late? I'll most likely be applying late to one or two schools. (Peddie) If it doesn't work out, I will apply next year to a ton of schools. I'm hoping that I can do this whole process successfully next year and actually visit the schools.

You are applying for Peddie, Jonathan ?

Would you be applying for 11th grade next year, Jonathon? That will be especially tough.

Yeah it's really tough. I am in the same situation now.

If you don't NEED the top-tier experiance, try for some lesser known schools, like The Knox School and The Storm King school. I like them, lol, Ive posted on them somewhere on this board.

I've looked at schools like Knox and Storm King, but I don't think they're right for me.

nns91, I might be applying to Peddie late. It's a really great school and has the same SAT scores, endowment, FA, etc. as schools like St. Paul's, Andover, Deerfield, etc. The only thing different about Peddie is the average SSAT score (70%), which is much closer to my score of 64%. I emailed Peddie and will call tomorrow and ask if they are going to offer FA to students who are accepted late.

Another reason I'm considering applying late is so I won't have to face the extremely intense competition of applying for 11th grade.

It might be a wise choice.

I think they will reject me soon

Jonathan, why don't you apply as a repeat 10th (if late doesn't work out)?

I haven't completely decided yet, keylyme, but I can't really see myself repeating. I'm not young for my grade like most repeaters. (January 1993) I'm not against repeating in general, though. I'm just not sure if it's right for me. I will probably apply as a 10th grade repeat next year to SPS if applying late doesn't work out. Maybe I could apply as both a 10th repeat and 11th?

nns91, don't say that! You don't know if they will won't go to their wait list. Do you know if they've gone to it in the past?

Jonathan1: I really hope that applying late this year works out for you. I have no experience to offer on that front, but the SSAT web site states that they will have a list in April or May for schools that are still taking applications, and that may be a good source for you.

I also have to suggest that if you apply next year, you broaden your search to include some schools that have a higher acceptance rate, if you are really intent on going to boarding school. Given your duration on this board, and the number of threads and posts you have, it does seem like a long-term goal for you. By only focusing mostly on schools that have a very low acceptance rate, you make it hard to achieve that goal.

I don't mean to sound harsh here...you certainly seem like a student with a lot of energy and good qualities!

Jonathan, I am in the exact same situation as you. I'm in 9th grade, and applying late for boarding school, as a 10th grader. I have a feeling I don't have much of a chance applying to the "big" schools late, but we'll see what happens. I might just have to wait till next year and apply as a 11th grader, but then that slims my chances down alot too. I don't really have a problem with repeating a grade, but I'm an older freshman (September 1992), and staying back a year would make me much, much older then everyone else.

But I hope you find a good school, and get accepted.

I think I might be looking at smaller, less known schools now so I have a chance of being accepted, then maybe apply for the bigger schools next year.

Perhaps you should see one of the private school counselors. I had a friend who did that after being rejected to all the first year and she got into all the ones the c had her do.

dancelovex3, Peddie has rolling admissions now so I'll probably be applying there late.

Do they really have rolling ?

It will be nice. Do they have priority for waitlist or it's equal between rolling and waitlist ?

I called them today at 4:30 (the admissions office closes at 4:00), and the automated message said they are having rolling admissions at this time.

Milton is also accepting late applications.

"We are happy to
consider late applications, and will make decisions based upon space and
financial aid available to us at the time. My suggestion would be to try
and submit an application and all the supporting materials as soon as
possible, as this would give you the greatest potential for success."

Aren't all schools willing to accept a late application, if space is available (though, as apractical matter, finaid budgent is probab spent).

Not to burst your bubble, but most schools only "accept late applications" to boost their numbers (percent accepted). In truth few schools will have spots remaining (think of all the students put on the waiting list and rejected) and those that do really accept late applicants you probably would not be interested in attending.
