I've just considered applying to Kelley, but how does it work? Is admissions rolling? Am I too late? I have a 3.6 UW GPA (school doesn't rank), 28 ACT, and 1240 SAT (composite) / 1900. Someone please give me details. Thanks

IU is rolling. You apply to IU first, declare business as intended major, then Kelley reviews for freshman direct admit. Minimum required stats for Kelley D.A.: 3.5 GPA and 29 ACT.

I guess I won't be applying :-...I don't meet the cutoff for test scores :(. Thanks though

You and my son both. He also just missed it with a 28. But, that's just one way into Kelley so don't give up on it. Once you're at IU, you can apply for admission then. In fact, that's the typical avenue rather than freshman D.A.

Is your son going to be attending IU? Did he apply to Michigan?

parikhs - Only 5% of the applicants are actually admitted to Kelley as a freshman. It's a rarity and the majority of the students go to Indiana, take some classes, and get into their major after their sophomore year. It's not hard to get into Kelley, provided you have over a 3.0.

parikhs--Yes, son applied to Michigan, is a two-parent legacy, and was deferred. IU is one of the front-runners in the schools he's considering. Even if he ends up being admitted to Michigan, and despite the fact that he loves Wolverine football, B-Ball, etc., he has his doubts about whether the student body is the right fit for him. Have you applied there as well?

I applied to UMich as well, but their GPA conversion makes it nearly impossible for me to be admitted.

From what I've heard...IUB isn't really a prospect for firms. Can someone tell me if this is true? I'm looking for a school that is known by firms so I can get a good job postgraduate.

depends on what kind of business job your looking for ( i-banking, consulting etc.) and what kinds of firms ( prestige level, size of corporation/firm/company) your looking for. i tink i-banking isnt Kelley's strongest point so you probaly wont get the SUPER prestigious and top i-banking firms to really recuit heavily at IUB( most likely u gota contact those firms and do it yourself with some help at kelley career office), they would more likely be at wharton, harvard, columbia, williams, amherst etc. but i-bank firms do recruit at kelley and some top i-banking firms like goldman sachs recruit at iu so its not like NO i-banks come but u kno wut i mean. in general, fortune 500 companies for sure recruit and come to IU kelley since kelley is a top business school and companies do know about it. so ya the point is maybe the super prestigious firms in i-banking or consulting might not come often to kelley but in general top companies do recruit and know that kelley is a solid busines school. hope this helps

besides look at the rankings like businesweek and usnews, Indiana is in top 30, they wouldnt be placed in top 30 if the business school was just average right? obviously since kelley had a good business education program and got good connections to top companies its placed in top 30 :)

I think you're asking the wrong question. Of course firms look for the brightest from top schools like the Ivy league schools or some of the other schools, such as U of Penn's Wharton or Northwestern U's Kellogg. You'll also find some of the private schools have a reputation that impress firms, such as Georgetown, Notre Dame, etc. If your scores are such that you're a good candidate for those schools, then you're probably limiting yourself by looking at Indiana U. If you're not Ivy League, Georgetown, Notre Dame material, then IU's business school has a great reputation. Furthermore, and the real question to be asked, I think, is what companies offer internships there? If you got the literature from Indiana, you'll see a list of pretty impressive list of companies that students can intern at - which is a great way to get your foot in the door.

exactly wut aimhigh said, if you dont got the stats for wharton, kellogg etc. kelley is ur next best choice LOL

Getting a job in i-banking isn't that hard guys.......it is what kind of job. Front of the house v back of the house. You are asking two wrong questions.

true im curious about that, do kelley students usually get the job working at the "front of the house" or the "back of the house" hah funi way to put it. or does it pretty much depend on the student ( their stats and stuff) in general

I am sure you could find some but I'll bet they are under the guidance of a Wharton grad.hehehe

You wouldn't be biased now, would you? LOL !!!

Aimhigh, how do you get the stats on who recruits at Indiana? Do you have a link?

uh i tink i remeber looking at the kelley site where it shows the stats of the kelley grads and where they worked il look for it and give u link i tink it might help on understanding what stats and experience you need to get at IU to land a good job at a top i-bank firm. il post link asap if i find it

Hey there GoBlueAlumMom.......I just know that this discussion has come up many times before and Whartonites always have some touche' to add. I do think that many students don't really know how i-banking works and when they talk about jobs in the industry they have no clue as to the types of job/the hours and the real deal. I guess that is my main point. There are plenty of jobs in i-banking that aren't glamorous.
