Applying to multiple programs

Is it okay to apply to both Masters and PhD programs at the same institution? For masters, I'm mainly concerned about funding. If they provide me with funding, I'd be happy doing masters for now. However, doing PhD has been on my mind for the past few years and so want to give it a shot and apply. Since both the applications will be for the same department, I'm concerned that they'll think I'm not dedicated enough.

For all of the departments I applied to, if you are turned down for the Ph.D. program you will be automatically considered for a Masters (without funding).

Check the website or email the administrator at the programs you are interested in, because this is often the case.

Thank you!..I’ll check with the specific programs

There are a few Master’s programs out there from schools that do not have a Ph.D. program that do fund their best students. For example, I am a fully-funded Master’s student in Political Science at Marquette University. These are rare, but there may be some out there.
