What exactly do you mean by "fly"?

Upper Canada College is alright. Not as good as Exeter though.

Oh, I heard the University of Toronto is like the Harvard of Canada. I that true (or maybe it was Queen's University of the like :D)?

U of T is good. It's one of the best in Canada. The campus is great; it's in downtown Toronto. And the buildings have a lot of character.
How popular is it to apply to boarding school in the school you all are currently attending?
I go to an international school in Hong Kong. Each grade has about 100 students.. pretty small.
Last year (8th grade) only 5 applied. But of those 5, 3 went to St Pauls, 1 to Loomis Chaffee and 1 to Lawrenceville.

And isn't it pretty cool how the people who post on this thread all have good SSAT scores? Like 90 and above?

haha...ahahahahahaaaaaa. University of Toronto isn't even REMOTELY close to Harvard. For one, it's PUBLIC, its endowment is a MEASLY 1 Billion (consider that Exeter/Andover have the same amount), and the admissions process is a piece of cake. I mean, all they care about is your grades. No essays, no extracurriculars, just fill out a dinky form. Queen's University is pretty bad too. On a scale of 1 - 10 is Harvard is 10, University of Toronto; best University in Canada, isn't even a 1.

Then again, all Canadian universities have a simple app process. It's good and unstressful, if you look at it from a different angle. It really is just submit your transcript, and you're done. I think U of T has a rolling admissions.. not sure.

By the way, esahopeful said that U of T is like Harvard of CANADA. Standards are different...
But you gotta admit, u of t is one of the better ones in canada. Compared amongst solely Canadian universities..

Does anyone on this thread get below a 90 on the ssat?

Prpeparent:

Do not worry about SSAT. Look myself English is my second language. Though my kid have SSAT 99+ but I do not think it matters. My kid goes to one of the seven elite prep school. He has numerous friends who have SSAT below 90. Remember the kids need to show the personality that he can adjust to a very demanding environment. Tell your kid to sell oneself in the interview and be positive.

Thankyou, Iam not worried for myself, I have a D in prep school. I am concerned that the young kids put too much weight on this exam. I hope they understand that other things are as important. Such as the interview, app, etc.

Wow, jthecanadian, do you hate all the school's in your country? What do you find so appealing about America (it can't be our president :D)!!!

prepparent i got a 89 on the ssat. Now just to wait to be accepted or to be rejected.

gandalfmight, Good Luck! I hope all went well for you in your app. process. Im sure you will be accepted somewhere.

I decided to only apply to PEA cause it's near by and the best school. Its got a awesome science building to!! The 9th Grade math teacher was awesome to!!!! The "gym" has 20 tennis courts ect.

Gandal, well a special good luck to you. Although my D applied to more the one school, she really was interested in only one of them.

esa, your President is a pretty good fellow; a guy who sticks by his values (Canadians hear that here and they'll kill me). Ironic too, since PEA and all those prep schools are gonna be Liberal. HA, I'm screwed with the Kerry fans! Well actually I'm gonna apply to Harvard within two years, and I chose these schools because the culture of New England is worth exploring before that time!

In an internationally well respected comparison of universities (Shanghai Jiao Tong institute of education) Harvard was rated at 100, Columbia 61, Toronto 44. Brown 26. While no Canadian University compares with the stellar quality (and astronomical cost) of the best US universities, by international standards they are rather good. At an undergraduate level the Toronto Honours degree is probably as good or better than any American degree. I would put Queen's easily equivalent to Brown and University of Waterloo in mathematics equivalent to MIT. ( It might be instructive to note that the current president of Princeton got her first degree from Queen's). As far as prep schools are concerned, the University of Toronto Schools is academically pretty good and Lakefield, UCC would compare pretty well to some distinguished preps in the USA

The presidents a good guy.

Sorry about my comment I really don't want to start a Bush debate, but I'm glad everyone seems to be enjoying this thread and we've got to keep it alive through decision week for next year's applicant archives. I really appreciated reading the archives of the year before and it really helped. So let's do it for next year's applicant's!!! Reply everyday.!!!
