lol, 44 days till the decisions are mailed! Cross ur fingers people!

Anybody have an idea how long it will admit letters to get down from Massachussets/New Hampshire to North Carolina? Do they send them early to places far away? Im expecting to get the letters on the 11th or 12th, but I'm not sure.

I read on last year's Boarding school talk board that Exeter allows international applicants to check their admissions decisions online via LionLinks.
I dont know about this year though. But probably. You'll get an email saying you can check at a specified time.

Although I have no one in this app round, I did recieve info from lawrenceville that they will allow you to access their decision on 3/10. Last year CRH decisions were available on 3/10 on their web sit. Interestingly , this goes against the policy of the ten schools agreement.

Just to clarify my previous post, I was speaking of domestic apps.

paleozoic, I agree with you on the academics. Waterloo might be comparable to MIT, but you have to understand, that's just academics. These Universities don't offer extracurriculars, or tabled discussions or anything interesting like that. Rather, they power in instructed academics and to me, that's just not my way of learning.

And another thing that's worth noting, is the student body of these Canadian Universities aren't even remotely close in intelligence, passion, or stamina like these American Universities. We can compare academics, but there's also a way of comparing Universities.

I've went to UCC and quite frankly, I'm not impressed with the administration or their philosophy of learning. They only matriculate about 1-3 Ivies or Top Tier each year (lucky, most Canadian Public schools never get that in their history of existence). UTS Schools would be lucky to get that kind of matriculation; their guidance simply isn't good enough to shoot people to the stars. And these kinds of numbers are minute compared to Exeter's 15+ to Harvard ALONE each year.

Now these matriculation factors may not play an important role, I don't know. But what I do know is, Indian Institute of Technology may be better than MIT academically, but certainly not as a whole.

Just my 2 cents.

Entirely off topic but...
Yes! Another 10 inches of snow on top of 30 inches last weekend! Boo ya! No more room to put the shoveled snow... lol I got five piles of snow 5 feet high. At least we got school cancelled. I used to live in Canada (Ottawa for 3 years and Toronto for 2 years) and I don't think there ever was ANY big snowstorm. The biggest one probably produced 8 inches of snow...

BTW jthecanadian, is it hard for somebody who lives in the U.S. to get into U of Toronto (compared to Canadian applicants)? That'll be a good safety school for me since it's cheap and it offers a good education, and also because I like Canada.

tekno, if you have a solid academic record with a list of decent extracurriculars (nothing like research, olympiads, or uber summer programs and such), then you should have NO problem getting in.

hey jt, I live in North Carolina too. It will take about three days for the letters to arrive. What city do you live in?

AHHG! THREE DAYS!?!? does the Lion Links thing show for people inside the US? If so, on what day? Of course, I'd still only know about one of the schools I'm applying too, but its better than nothing.

I live in Chapel Hill- if your familiar with the city, I live off the 15-501, about a mile from the close to the I-40.

Collegewise for me, I'm going professional with my acting, so I'm looking at theatre schools- NYU, Northwestern, Yale... you know the routine. I should have a backup plan, but I dont know... maybe something with the CIA or something. I'd have to get better at math though.

Cool, I live in Durham (The Great Triangle)!!. Yeah my school is right across from 15-501 in Durham. What grade are you in?

Do any of you know how it takes the SSS to analyze to PFS (financial aid papers) and send back a family report/send reports to schools?

Not sure about that sequence, however, when you get your acceptance letter you will also get your financial stuff.

AHHHHH I'm such a procrastinator... I started my Andover essay/short answers today, and it's due in 4 days! I should proctrastinate less... I think everybody here finished theirs already.
For my Exeter app, I started the essays 1 week before it was due, and I finished them the MORNING of the postmark deadline, lol. Now that's either SKILLS or STUPIDITY.

don't worry tekno10m, I'm just starting the Andover essay/short answers
what prompt are you choosing and why?

I just called and Exeter says they haven't received my app that I sent on the 4th. Stupidly, I did not make a photocopy. So now I have to handwrite a lot. No fun, no fun.

Who's applying where and for which grade?

nightflarer - I chose the "tell a story about a person..." one. I have the uber person to write about...so if I write it well, my essay will just own the essay (? that didn't make much sense) . But... writing it well is a whole different story, especially with only 4 days. Better start working!

tara - hmm that's odd...I sent my exeter essays the morning of Jan 15, and yesterday I saw on Lion Links that everything has been received. I hope they'll let you resubmit the essays after the deadline if it is lost or something...

BTW I'm applying only to Andover and Exeter, for entrance into grade 11.

I thought the Andover deadline was January 15.

I think (I HOPE!) that the andover deadline is jan 15 for day students and feb 1 for boarding students. I think that Andover is the only elite boarding school w/ a feb 1st deadline.
