Applying to Prep School!!!

Yes!!! Accepted At Andover!!!

tekno 10m, WOW, CONGRATS! I wish you well.

Go out and celebrate your acceptance with your familiy and friends...congratulations.

wow congratulations!!
I'm still waiting on Lawrenceville and Choate.

Do schools tell you the likelihood of getting off the waitlist? Exeter is my #1 school and I would really want to know...

tara, it is best to call the school and tell them they are still number one. They will give you the skinny. When a place opens up they will go to the list to see who would fit . I believe they may even rate the wait list. you will get a form that you will fill out to let them know your intentions regarding the wait list. My recollection is that you have some schools left on your list, so good luck!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't posted on this board for before, but my s applied to boarding schools and we are also waiting to hear, but I have to say is my son the only average kid around. My 2 older children went to day schools in the Boston area, one to Beaver Country Day and the other to Buckingham Browne and Nichols, my youngest has been in junior boarding school for the past 2 years and applied for either ninth or tenth grade, but not to any schools of the caliber of Exeter or Andover. Parent's of average kids, give me a shout.

I don't think any of the schools will tell you what your chances are, because they will be looking to fill specific slots. They will need a couple more girl boarders, for example. From that group they'll look at whatever specific priorities they need.

I know a few kids who were admitted off the waitlist in the past and one thing they had in common is that none was applying for financial aid. So my guess is that waitlisted students who are hoping for financial aid don't get admitted.

I've heard that if they want to take you off the waitlist someone from admissions will call you first and ask whether you still want to come. If you say yes, then they mail the acceptance packet. (Sort of what some colleges do to massage their yield numbers.)

Jamismom, BBN is a fine school. is your sone considering BBN. I don't know much about beaver country day. I know BBN because my daughter goes to an ISL school. What schools is your son applying to? good luck! I remember this tense stuff from last year. It's an exciting time for the students.

Prepparent, BB and N is a wonderful school. My older son graduated last spring and is doing extremely well in college. He was sent off very well prepared. The top 37 kids in his class went off to Ivy League schools, so that it made it more difficult for him. My younger son is definately not up to the rigor of BB and. Beaver is a more art oriented school, not in the ISL. I would say it's a school for a middle of the road kid, an average kid, the type of kid that is most common. He applied to St. Andrews in Florida and was accepted, The Gunnery, was accepted, but not sure what grade, and we are still waiting to hear from Cushing, Williston, Cheshire and Brewster. He probably wouldn't go to Brewster, because he doesn't need that kind of environment and since we have the #1 public high school in the stae , he probably would be better off at our local high school. And , by the way, I don't think it's so exciting. I can't wait until all my kids are out of school and that seems a long way off.

Also from Boston area. My son is an average kid, although he tested well on the ISEE and is pretty good in sports. He is applying to Roxbury Latin for 7th grade, currently attends Thayer. I am doubtfull he will get in to RL, but one can always hope they are looking for an average kid to round out those stellar kids!

Good luck to all!

Jamismom- we looked at Williston and Cushing for S, who is now a first year junior at a different school. Was VERY impessed with both- we didn't get to visit, but had extensive contact and an in-town visit with Cushing rep. I think both schools are wonderful and nurturing with excellent academics. They turn out well-rounded kids who are good citizens. I have heard some negative things about Brewster (strict censorship of the teaching materials) from someone I trust very much. We deliberately looked at schools similar to the ones you mentioned, including most of the MAPL schools, and for reasons having nothing to do with academics, they are a better choice for many kids than the "big 5".

I didn't have a great feeling about Brewster either and it really isn't appropriate for my son. He is a very average kid and if we lived somewhere else in the country he would be deemed above average, it's just dealing with the New England Mentality. I don't think he is getting into Cushing, particularly because he wan't very enthusiatic about it at his interview and made it very clear. The Gunnery is our first choice and we are just waiting to see what grade his accepted for. If it's 10th we will be ecstatic, ninth we are going to need some time to think about it. I liked Williston, but I didn't feel it was structured enough and I also would like a school with a stricter dress code, but my son loved Williston. So we wait and we wait and it seems like I have been waiting for the last 18 years , the first time my children applied to independent schools. I hope these schools will start to remember that there are many average kids out there that turn out to do far better in life then the stellar kids now,.

tekno, how do you know you were accepted to andover? International student?

How can you access the decision on lion links for Exeter? When I tried it just brought me to the normal screen with the status of your materials link and interview link.

I Got Into St. Paul's !!!!!!!!!! Yessssssss!!!!!

So how do you find whether or not you get accepted to Exeter on Lion Links?

I'm pretty sure only international students can find out on Lion Links. I'm so happy I got into Andover!! I'm still waiting for Exeter's decision though

Esa - Congrats!!!!!!!

I got it from FedEx "Priority Overnight." It says they mailed it on March 9, which violates the Ten Schools' Agreement! dun dun dun...

Congrats coolblue!!!

I'm also waiting on Exeter.

tekno, does that mean that you're the only person here accepted? Where do you live?
