Applying to Prep School!!!

tekno, did you get a Andover Scholarship? 1000th post!!! YEAH!!!

I'm a loser and am waiting to get letters from schools. I want to keep the suspense, so I didn't ask for e-mail.

CONGRATS EVERYONE!!!!! sniff I'm so proud of you even though I don't know you...

It's almost over...

All of that work, and now we are seeing the fruits of our labor...

Wow.

AWESOME LUCK TO ALL!!!!

DON'T GIVE UP ALL YE WAITLISTERS AND REJECTEES!!!! THEIR LOSS!!!

Congrats to all again. And sympathy to the others.

lol, I wonder if any past cc'ers have run into each other at prep school and recognized each others screenames? That would be cool and start a pretty cool friendship.

Techno - thank you. We did apply for FA with our initial package. I was just curious as we rec'd notification via e-mail of acceptance to the school. Are the two -acceptance to school and FA to separate entities?

That'd be cool. Congrats, Esa, on SPS and Andover!!!!

I am such a stupid
I did not get into st.paul, groton, nor choate.
It is with regret that we inform you that the Admissions Committee has decided that we cannot offer you admission to St. Paul’s School for September 2005.

This decision was made after a thorough review of your application. This year's applicants were particularly strong; it was a very difficult task to select from among them. I can only assure you that we did our best to be fair: your application was reviewed at length and more than once, and your essays, transcripts, school reports, and recommendations were carefully read and interpreted.

This year we could offer admission to only one in five applicants, and the strength of our applicant pool was remarkable. Our decision is a reflection of these strong numbers and not necessarily a judgement of your ability to be happy and successful here.

I am sorry to give you this disappointing news. You have honored us with your interest in St. Paul’s, and we wish you the very best of luck. If, after discussing this with your parents, you decide to re-apply next year, or if you have any questions about our decision, you may contact us at admissions@sps.edu, or by calling us at 603-229-4700.

Thank you for your interest, and best wishes.

Sincerely yours,

Michael G. Hirschfeld '85
Director of Admissions

Dear Francis:

The Admission Committee has carefully reviewed your application. With regret, we must report that we cannot extend to you the opportunity to study at Groton in the fall.

You should know that each year we have many more candidates than we have places. Unfortunately, we must disappoint many well-qualified and attractive candidates. The task of the Admission Committee is a difficult one and, undoubtedly, time will reveal errors in our judgment. The majority of this year's applicant pool could certainly have performed well at Groton and would also have made significant contributions to the community. One of Groton's greatest assets is its small size. At this time of year it seems almost a liability.

I know that you have the ability to do well as you continue your education and wish you every success in the years to come. You have complimented us by applying to Groton, and we thank you for the effort you committed to your application. With best personal regards, I remain,

Sincerely,

Dear Francis:

For the last several weeks the Admission Committee has spent much time and effort discussing a large number of candidates. This year the competition was as tough as it has ever been in the history of the school. It is with respect for and acknowledgement of your effort that, unfortunately, I must inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to Choate Rosemary Hall.

Choate is challenged by the reality that there are more qualified applicants than spaces available. Therefore, even students who demonstrate academic strength, talent, character and potential may be denied admission. This is a difficult circumstance and one that is prevalent at highly competitive schools.

It is our sincere hope that our decision does not dampen your enthusiasm and desire for the best education. In fact, we are encouraged that you may indeed find opportunity in a school similar to Choate, and we wish you great success and happiness in your future endeavors.

Sincerely,

Ray Diffley, III
Director of Admissions

sorry to hear that skyykj...could you post your stats again, please?

I'm sorry skkykj. :(

Sky - hang in there. I am sorry, I know disappointment is really difficult. Did you apply to any other schools? If not, were there any additional schools that you would consider applying to.

I am so, so, sorry skyykj.

It is awful to put down your life onto a piece of paper and have a bunch of admissions commitee members tell you it's not good enough. Have you applied anyplace else? Perhaps you could call them and find out specifics about why you weren't accepted. I know this might seem harsh right now, but there's always next year, also...

The St. Paul's letter sounds the most sincere, well, as far as those type of letters go. I am sorry to hear about your results and truly wish you the best of luck in the future.

Don't think of yourself as stupid, but rather think of yourself as a more resolved and determined individual. Like two of the three letters said, "It is our loss". But you have to think realistically: these schools only admitted roughly one in five to one in four students. Even if you exhibit extreme potential and character, you have to out-do 4 students equally capable to gain entrance. "Not failure, but low aim is the crime. In great attempts it is glorious even to fail," and obviously, you didn't aim low. Make sure to keep determined and definately reapply to these schools next year.

By the way, are all accept / waitlist / reject letters the same? Like, do they have a standard, and just change the name for each of them?
Just curious.

Golden - if you applied for FA, and they just emailed you the acceptance letter, the FA stuff is definitely gonna come later in the mail, in a few days at most (since they can't really email you the FA stuff). IF they don't mail you the FA in the next several days , definitely call them, because they're definitely supposed to. Lots of definitely's.....

esa - yeah, I got this "Oscar Tang" scholarship for Andover. hmm... it seems like (almost ) everybody who's admitted to Andover and who applied for FA (me, you, coolblue) got some scholarship from some guy.

tara - it seems like it. Nothing specific about me about was in any of my letters, it's all the same old shpeel.

Sleft got a Phelps Scholarship to Andover too.

lol....this kinda sux for me now.....REJECTED from SPS....WAITLISTED on PA and PEA....and accepted at Hotchkiss (and Taft)!!!! Yay...at least I'm gonna leave Vietnam for da States....THANKS YOU GOD....or what ever god y'all believe in.....BLESS ME!!!! rolls around on the ground

Good luck for y'all who still waiting....and for y'all who got rejected...I know how it feels....I'm with y'all...KEEP IT UP!

congrats sunny. I've stillgot 3 more rejections to go

thanks your for your responxe, anyway, I am still wating from Andover and Exeter, I wish I get into at least on of them.

i dont want to go to school today. everyone, since they think im a genius(which i'm not) is going to expect me to get in.
