prepparent: You have a great heart but nevertheless if skyyjk wants to be in the game, he and his family have to play by the rules which is never ever to question the fairness of the admission officers. Without knowing the family's residence status it is impossible to assess how the financial aid decision may have figured in the decision not to admit. Exeter says straight out--as Jthecanadian discovered too late--that international students seeking aid are in the most competitive pool of all, in fact almost mission impossible unless you have a very clear hook that makes you special. The obvious thing for skyykj to do at this point is to look around for an IB/AP program at his highschool, do as well as he can and shoot for merit aid next year. St. Paul's has a well respected classical honors program that may be worth looking at. Another place I would look at is Peddie

Congratulations to all who've made it through to their dream schools. Go...go run with your dreams.

And the next time you watch a hockey game at these NE prep schools, notice how the Canadians always save the day! :p

Please guys, don't use the term rejection. Think about the word for 10 seconds; I'll give you two choices to what they mean, the first two are incorrect. If you were truly rejected, then you were never qualified to be considered by these schools in the first place. I know that is not the case today. Try "dispreffered" instead. Or "not chosen."

It is YOU who make up the character and form of your success. Not Exeter, Andover, or another boarding school. Worst case scenario: You get "not chosen" by all of the schools you've applied to. OK, but what's next? You've written up all of these applications, and now you've seemingly wasted your time right? Wrong! You have taken a chance at one of these top US Schools, and that is much better than the intimidated person who never tried. You have learned more about the application process and by the time you apply to college, you'll know more about yourself on paper. You might've even learned more about what you want to be from "dispreference," there're more than just boarding schools towards the way of success. Don't be provincial, you might be missing another opportunity 5 degrees off scope!

With that, I'd have to disagree with coolblue07. Remember what JFK said? Basically, it'll be you who makes the difference upon yourself, not the school. Remember, almost everyone here on CC who've been accepted to HYPS-MIT, etc., to great summer programs, jobs, internships, moving steps towards their dreams; almost everybody on CC right now are from public schools. They have found their own paths to success. And I'll give you a hint: You'll have a lot more time from less homework. What could you be doing then? (This is one disadvantage of a boarding school, where do the Intel winners and Science people all come from? From places where they have lots of time to spend...)

But would I prefer to be in a boarding school? Of course, the academia is excellent mind jogging. But whatever state you're in right now, accepted or dispreferred, use what motivation you've always had to climb that mountain. And you've got something right there...

paleo, i understand with regard to the int'l student. groton may not be the best choice either. certainly peddie among others are better choices for int'l students. in fact if i'm not mistaken groton does not offer ESL (im assuming that may be an issue). being in the most comp pool still gives sky an opportunity. The real lesson here is that you can't just go by the #'s. peace to you paleo

paleo, the best schools for int'l students by % are :

NMH 25%
St. Geiorge's 17%
st. pauk's and CRH 14%
the hill 13%
peddie 11%

ex, an, hotch, MX, loomis, deer and others are all in the 8-9%

Golden: you live in CA? what schools did you apply to?

rejection.

actually, j is right. did anyone hear see "What the Bleep?" that's what they talk about with quantum physics. it's really cool

Anybody hear from Deerfield yet?

i got beat by my parent after they read my rejection letter may be I should kill my self, on monday i should acquire Hydrochloric acid

When I got my rejection letter to Castilleja...my mom told me that I was worthless and I'm not worth the tuition anyway...haha but it's not fun to feel sorry for yourself. Two more letters still waiting :-).

Man, my Exeter letter didn't come today so I'm going to have to wait until MONDAY!!! What am I going to do for two more days...

Just chill... you really can't do anything about it. Do homework if you've got any. Go out with friends to the movies... do anything that'll get the letter off your mind.

P.S. remember, DISPREFFERED OR NOT CHOSEN

I GOT ACCEPTED TO EXETER!!!! Now I got accepted to Andover, Exeter, and St. Paul's and I got between $27100-30300 in financial aid and they're paying for me to fly to their in April to visit the school, transport me and my mom back and forth, let us stay on campus for free, and provide all meals. I am so happy. Tekno, did you apply to all the same schools as me? I am so happy!!! Good luck to everyone else who hasn't heard from the schools yet!!!

ESA CONGRATS!!! What grade did you apply for again? Maybe we could all meet up if we go to Exeter in September.

What is this about parents abusing kids who have not been chosen by their schools. More power to the CCers who have given these kids a place to come to air their views both good and bad. It is such an honour to be a parent!!

Avoco yes my S got his acceptance from Deerfield via Fedex yesterday pm and we live in the Caribbean. He has not been able to visit yet but he is so excited about the prospects of starting out in 9th grade.

esa that's great news! congratulations
by the way, do you have aim?

Yeah, I have it.

I wanted to ask you something on AIM, can we talk?

privileged iit is an honor

esa, that's fantastic! are you able to touch ground?

sky, your joking right?

X___________fat tell me your'e joking?

Nope, prepparent. But the thing is, I don't think my mom really meant it...she's a dentist and one of her patients was telling her that I wasn't worth private and stuff and how the money should be saved for college. I hate her patients so much lol.
I'm over it...I confronted my mom about not supporting but she just hung up on me :-/.

On a brighter note...the mailman just came and I just got accepted at Harker...my dream school even though probably no one's heard of it. I'm so happy that I'm having trouble typing correctly lol...I keep on having to go back and correct my mistakes.
Now all I need to do is to convince my parents that I'm worth Harker and Harker is worth me!
