OK So we broke down and called admissions today to see if they could tell us my son's status. He has not wanted to do this up until now because he did not want any bad news. We found out earlier this week that he is being offered the foundation program for WP so we are feeling pressure to accept or decline that. His RO was not in the office so they directed us to another. She looked up his file and told us that unfortunatly he has been not found qualified enough to be offered a direct appointment, then she was very quite for a few min. and sounded confused, as though she did not understand somthing. then she said he has not been rejected either. So does this mean he may be offered Naps or the foundation? He would be over the top with either. She said that his RO would be in next week and she would leave a message for him to call us.

Sounds to me like a long weekend until next his RO is around to talk! My totally unknowledgable opinion is it sounds like it could be good, after all the person he spoke with didn't say it's a no.

Good luck. The hard part now is waiting until Monday!

they kinda told me the same thing. i wasn't found qualified (they worded it the exact same way) but wouldn't tell me i was rejected. turns out i had to take my cfa again and then i got into naps. i couldn't be happier... actually i could, with a direct appointment. lol.

tell your son good luck. i know how stressed i was to call and ask anything. i made my mom call. you never know what could happen.
don't wait for your ro to call you back. call him/her next week. it'll at least show he's interested.

i got thought of it... what if he was wait listed?
just a thought. again, good luck.

what exactly does wait listed mean?

it's a maybe. like, if the not all the appointments are accepted, they could pull him up. but he could find out a week before i-day.
it happens, it sounds awful, but it happens.

keep us updated.

hey great job with gettin an acceptance in foundation for WP... and as for the USNA acceptance... if I were you, I would wait till april 15, or whenever USNA sends out its acceptance letters... you might get an direct appointment, or you might get an acceptance to NAPS, or you might get wait listed, which means that you get put on a list and as other direct appointees decide not to go to USNA, you might be able to take one of their slots. Now, if you turns out that you don't get accepted at all, then your best bet would be to go to WP foundation, unless you really wanted to go to USNA, then you could wait another year and try to apply again. If your 18, then you have about 5 years to apply, which is a long time. LOL. Now what you could possibly do, is go to the WP foundation, then apply to the Naval Academy from there. Its been done before... even from NAPS. You have alot of paper work to fill out, but you can do it... Im at NAPS right now, and we have a coast guard (NAPS is also used by the USCGA) kid here who decided that he wanted to go to USNA rather than USCGA, so he talked to the XO here, and he did all the necessary paperwork, and now, he's going to USNA. So, you have alot of options infront of you... and if I were you, I would just wait till you hear back from USNA. Hey and if all else fails... you can enlist!! actually alot of enlisted people go to NAPS, so if you really wanted to, its an option... they always say that the best officers are the ones who were enlisted before they went to an officer acession program. I'm not enlisted, but from the priors here at NAPS, you learn alot of things from them... its just another option... LOL

good luck!

So the son called and talked to his RO today. He told him that he is still competing for direct admission to USNA and should know something within the next couple of weeks. So back to waiting and wondering. We are going out of town for the first two weeks of April, I am sure that is when we will hear something. Got other pots stirring though, going to talk to a Div 1 swim coach this Fri. who wants him to swim and is offering $$, Also lining up some interviews with NROTC com. at schools that he has been accepted to. He has not recieved the NROTC Scholarship yet but wants to participate weather he gets it or not.

Correction: My son told me that in Oct. when he talked to his RO he was told that he was not found qualified for direct appt., Since retaking his SAT's in Jan and submitting his 7th semester transcripts ( in which he raised his GPA and Class ranking) he has now been found fully qualified and is competing for direct appointment.
