The essays all say "approximately 250 words" or "approximately 500 words". Will it hurt to go a little bit over, like 25 words or so?

No just don’t go more than 50-75 words above. They want you to keep it concise and not extremely long.

Ok, because I’m done with all 3 and I’m about 25-40 words over on each essay. 250 words is just ridiculously short. The common app 150 word one is even harder.

Thank you.

I went about 30 over for a couple. Dont think it matters

my 500 word essay was 733 words and i got in so i dont think it is a big deal as long as its a good essay.

Yep, I was about to say, someone I know went like 150 words over and still got in early…

As long as it gets the reader’s attention, going over should be no issue. It you rant on about something boring and does not draw the reader in, then it won’t help.

I went for a visit, and the admissions person there made it pretty clear that U of M doesn’t really care about the essays.

Rock the essays anyway. You never know what kind of scholarships you may be considered for.
