April 2011 ACT Reading Discussion

sbl0: I put meat curd cause I think I read the question wrong. I interpretate as “what was the succesful outcome of blah blah”, so eating meat was like the prize from their success. Aha.

It must have been engines because I know it specifically was asking for powering the aircraft.

And did the meat curd one also have beans or something? I remember the quote you posted, and I’m almost 100% sure there was beans in there lol

Engines is right!

Beans were mentioned in the quote, I believe.

w/o the sons though they wouldnt be successful…althought thats infered

the only thing i remember inferring was abount insects ruining the ink

On the comic strip passage, what was the answer to the one asking about the meaning of “conventions”???
That one stumped me…the answer choices where stereotypical situations, common courtesies…i cant remember the other choices…but ya…does anyone know the answer???
I put the situation one but i completely guessed :/

i think it was something similar to strategy

Laptop: That one was hard. At first I put a gathering of artists, u know like comic con, but then when I was rereading the passage I saw it used differently. I put something with the word PRACTICES.

practices is correct! i couldn’t remember what that one was, ty

Pretty sure Giancolii is right. Conventions in that context means like what the artist would normally do.

Customary practices or something. Like they standardized “wow” “zap” “pow” etc.

normal conventions wouldn’t make sense in the context

on the prose fiction, the answer was definitely that the woman borne 8 sons?

Another answers was onomatopoeia (yay spell check!)

I don’t think that one answer with the house was cellar, pit, etc… I remember reading the pit was dug by an ancestor and then expanded into a cellar. I do remember skimming over that section of the passage and reading that there was a courthouse.

And I put the winds at Kitty Hawk as an answer o_O

Another answer for the Chinese section was that the men were salesmen in the pottery district.

Do ya’ll remember the question with “rigid bodies” as a choice? I put something else for the answer.

I confirm customary practices.

Anyone remember any of the Star Trek questions?

^It was refurbished shed, pit, and cellar
I really doubt winds at Kitty Hawk is a right answer.
Salesman is correct.
Rigid bodies is correct.

^ Sincerely doubt that was the answer, but ok.

There was a long debate way early in the thread, but most people agree on refurbished shed, pit, and cellar, because court house is irrelevant with where they made the ink I believe.

for the winds at Kitty Hawk:
Is that the question about why they chose to attempt the flight in a private area?
I put something about making profit.

I’m surprised at how much easier ACT reading is than SAT. Almost everything is directly stated in the text, and I barely had to understand the passages to answer the questions.

what would a -7 look like?
