April 2011 ACT Thread

First time I took it I got
28 English
31 Math
35 Reading
31 Science

31 Composite

Shooting for 33+ this time!
Good luck to all!
And btw, any good study tips for those shooting for a perfect score?

I’m taking mine for the first time Saturday. I do terrible at math but I hope that I can at the least get a 19 on it overall. My score on the SAT back in February was a 1530/2600 (1060/1600).

I’m also taking it for the first time on the 9th. I’ve taken a practice test in the past week, and have gotten:
English: 28
Math:28
Reading: 34
Science: 28
Composite: 30

I got 2 practice books, the princeton review and the real ACT prep guide. I’ve found out that the PR’s science and math sections are harder than the Real ACT Prep. What books are you guys using?

I had the hardest time with the science and reading, but I think I got the reading under control for the test for this Saturday. I took the ACT my sophomore year and got a 26 composite. Here were my stats:

English: 28
Math: 27
Reading: 24
Science: 24

I’m aiming to improve english several points and math several points, and Reading and Science, well, I don’t know. I need a 30 reaaaaallly bad.

Any tips on improving any of the sections?

If you get a 1530 on the SAT (which is alright), you’d get much higher than a 19 on the act. I would suggest for the math just sharpening up on your simple algebra, simple geometry, and basic trig. Good luck.

Yo so I decided to read through each passage thoroughly on the Reading Section (like 4-5mins on each) and I got a 31!
So my best scores on my Practice tests in the red book were…

English 33
Math 35
Reading 31
Science 31
Composite 33

I hope I do better than this on saturday…

I hate all of you who are good at reading. I try spending 4 minutes reading and about 4 minutes answering the questions, but I always end up taking much longer to answer the questions. Hopefully it’s just because Barron’s 36 passages are longer and harder than the normal ones.

I’m nervous. Really nervous…we have a school dance tonight so maybe that’ll help take my mind off it.

I’ve taken two practice tests, scoring 32 and 31 rspectively.

English: 33-36
Math: 33-36
Reading: 30-33
Science(I always lose my will to live at this point): 28-32

Score range: 31-34

Red book practice test #1

E: 34
M: 33
R: 36
S: 28

Really, really hate the science section.

ACTs tomorrow!! Everybody get PUMPED!!! …sike -______-

How do you guys get such high reading scores? They only give you 8 minutes to read a good length passage and 10 questions…

Math is usually my worst subject (530 on SAT, but 660 on CR and 730 on W!) but I think that I will do better on math than reading on the ACT because of the time limit. Does anybody else feel this way?

About to take my final practice exam. :)

^^I’m right with you. If I try and rush I get like 6/10 right because of silly mistakes where I didn’t continue to read or missed a tiny detail.

I’m taking mine tomorrow too! Nervous as heck…You guys are smart! 30+? I’m hoping for at least a 24! I’ve decided not to do any ACT prep tonight, to avoid overloading my brain, but I did review basic geometry rules and formulas, because that’s my weakest spot out of the math section.

Good luck to all who are taking it tomorrow too!

Yeah, night before the test, its a good idea to review the formulas, rules and the special triangle rules for the math section.

I wish that the English section had more…prestige to it, I guess. The English ACT/Writing SAT are always my best. :P

I can honestly care less about tomorrow -_- I just want to take the test and then cancel sending my scores.

I definitely agree that you should rest your brain before the test. I feel that it calms my nerves.

I find that the science section is occasionally difficult. Most of the time, I struggle with passages that deal with biology (probably because I haven’t taken rigorous biology courses!).

Good luck everyone!

Those of you struggling with the reading test, I find it helpful to look at the questions first, and then hunt the passage for the key words in the passage. I find myself taking 8-10 minutes per passage…usually on pace…but it could backfire.

I use Princeton Review and Real ACT. If any of you have used the practice test in the free booklet, you might have noticed that you score unusually high…I got a 33 on it when I usually score around 30-32 in the practice tests.
