***APRIL 2017 ACT DISCUSSION THREAD***

@CanadianPostGrad Congrats!!

@CanadianPostGrad PrepScholar is not up-to-date with the current ACT (Math, Science)… How did it help?

@aznboi4981 I also tried using the PR ACT prep for 2017, but I can get easily distracted and bored, so reading a bunch of pages each lesson was challenging. There was one or two things in math that I had to teach myself (ie. the equation of a circle) but for the most part I wasn’t surprised by anything on the test. As far as Science goes, Ive only ever taken physics in high school. I found that most information to answer the science questions are found in the question data and you don’t really need to know science rather know how to read information quickly. Prep scholar helped by giving timed 15-20 minute sample tests on a given lesson. I know it’s a lot of money (400$)

BUT I found it worth while

@CanadianPostGrad Yeah, but I mean, PrepScholar itself is a lot of reading, and you said the Princeton Review ACT book was hard for you since you do not like reading… I tried it for the SAT back when I was in HS, and at first I thought I was getting something out of it, but my score actually dropped.

I NEED AT LEAST A 27 on the June ACT omg what do I do guys???/

Is this the first time you have taken i coolgirl3? Does this line up with your grades and typical testing? If not, you could consider it a fluke and not worry and retake. But if you need it to rise that much by June (!), then I would do the one on one tutoring.

I got my results (International) finally!
I am so thankful to be done with these tests after 1 try!
Scored a 34 Composite!!! ( E 33 M 31 R 34 S 36) after such an intensive practice a week before the tests. I had actually gotten a 25 C on a practice test on that same week but worked my heart out leading to the 8th…My only advice is to Practice lotsss!!! and get your methods down. This test is all about how hard you work but I am so happy!!

@Samim35 Congrats!!! Do you believe any particular prep materials you used contributed to your success?? :slight_smile:

Does anyone now when writing scores will be posted?

@aznboi4981 …I firstly started with attending an ACT prep week in January, where we used Mcgraw hill’ 10 tests and soon enough those were too easy, so we moved to using the Red Book…Real ACT Questions…this book is a must-have, even though I only used it for a week. Returning to school, I just used to print lots of CrackACT papers and did them 1-by-1 with timing as my main problem was timing. They were the most helpful because they showed exactly where I was and showed my improvement every time I did them. I also took lots of time after doing tests to analyze which I got wrong and exactly why I got them wrong.

The week before the ACT I went back to the prep center, and I used Princeton’s 2017 review…a GREAT book and also Barron’s 36 for Math and Science (notorious for having DIFFICULT questions). I did this to solidify my understanding and pick up crucial tricks to save time on tests. These two books also tend to make the questions harder than the actual ACT so it was good for preparation. I read these books while applying the information I learned to other CRACKACT papers. I think I did around 10 ACT papers in that 1 week before the test, some from CRACKACT and others where booklet samples from the ACT. Just practice a lot!! and I mean a lot!! and you will be very fine.

@aznboi4981

I had gone to a Prep center on january and april for a week. On january, we were introduced with McGraw Hill’s 10 tests and soon after they were too easy. For reading especially, these tests helped a lot because they usually exaggerated the length of actual ACT reading passages so I got to practice using longer passages.

We also used the REAL ACT BOOK…Red Book, which I think is a must-have because it gives actual ACT tests and has explanations too so I did a few tests on there too. When returning to school, I printed a lot of CRACKACT papers from like 2011 to 2015 and did them 1-by-1. This was the most HELPFUL because they were the real tests and I was getting exposed to exactly what would come on the ACT. As I did the tests, I slowly improved my timing and score because I got more experience and learned more about each test. I would spend a lot of time analyzing the papers and seeing exactly why I got questions wrong and what I need to do to never get the wrong again.

The week before the test, I returned to the Prep center and this time I used the Princeton’s 2017 ACT review…which I thought was a GREAAT! book. The techniques given were really good and I was able to experiment on things that I could do to improve my timing especially in Reading and science. I then moved to Barron’s 36 for Math…which again just pushed me to the limit because these two books have questions that were way Harder than the actual test. After doing a few tests and picking up on tricks I could use for saving time, I returned to CRACKACT and did all the 2016 papers and any I hadn’t done before up to 2011. I also used sample booklets that the prep center had and practiced with those. The tiresome but MUST-DO part was the analyzing after every test. I think I did around10 ACT tests in that 1 week, excluding the testing we were receiving at the test center so you gotta hustle!!

Is Friday batch up now?

Nothing here :frowning:

You would’ve gotten it at 8am ET …if you were getting it today. I didn’t get mine :frowning:

Same. Now we have to wait until Wednesday?

@josjorlin Yeah we wait till wednesday :frowning:

First time with ACT.
Hate this “maybe today, maybe next week or the next” score release method.
It’s a MULTIPLE CHOICE test.
Anyone at all get scores today?

@lalalander111 Yeah SAT releases all score on one date

Nothing here in Omaha. I did call the test center and they said they did have a Fedex issue with their test sheets which explains some of the delay. But come ON. 2 weeks later at a minimum? Frustrated.
