(ooops... did not realize there's a Rochester-only forum)

My son got an email reply from Eastman School of Music
yesterday, April 7. They said they have NOT yet made a
decision in his case yet.

Is this a good or bad sign? All of his friends who applied
to Eastman have gotten their accept/reject letters more
than a month ago.(only comparing the ones who are on
the same playing level, music & academic-wise)

Since we live in California, it'll probably take 5 or 6 days
for the mail to arrive. Let's say Eastman makes a final
decision by next Friday, it's more than likely that we'll get
the letter in the LAST week of April... cutting it kind of
close to the May 1 deadline for other schools? (or do they
use FedEx?)

It was a real pain dragging this big instrument through the
airport to go to the audition at Eastman... I hope it wasn't
for nothing...

Wow.. that's strange.. I'm guessing that he is a borderline applicant.. Since they haven't made a decision yet, I suggest that your son write a letter (and fax it to make sure they get it soon) to ROchester explaining once more why Rochester would be a perfect fit, including any updates in his application, etc....

If he really is a borderline applicant, that letter could make all the difference in the world.

Good Luck!

By the way.. did you call the school yet? You tend to get better results and quicker answers if you talk to someone versus sending an e-mail.. I suggest calling, asking them if they had made a decision, and if not, telling them that you are planning on sending a letter by fax.

thanks for the advice! I'll give them a call first thing
Monday morning.

My son is hardly a borderline student... 1530 SAT,
3.9GPA... musically, he's really good, having already
been accepted in mid-March by his 2nd choice(Julliard)
and 3rd choice(NEC). Strangely, he was rejected by only
one school, USC, which was one of his safety schools.

Needless to say, he is very anxious to hear from his

1 choice, Eastman... :)

still nothing in the mail yet, but they said "something"
was mailed out only two days ago.. keeeping our fingers
crossed for now. from past experience, it should take about
4 days for the post office to deliver it from NY to CA.
Or does Eastman send them out via FedEx?

Why don't they let applicants check admission decisions
on their website like some colleges do?

my son's teacher has another student who got an
acceptance letter from Eatman in mid-March. His grades
are only average(1025 SAT, 3.2GPA), but his musical skills
were good enough to get him in. (accepted by Eastman,
CIM, Peabody... while rejected by Julliard)

I don't know about Eastman, but I believe I got my acceptance letter through regular mail..

By the way, I hadn't heard of Eastman until I applied to Rochester, but I had heard of Julliard. Is Eastman really in the same league (or better?) than Julliard?

Anyway, good luck, and keep us informed!

Californiaharp, I hope your son got into Eastman. I'm sure you know the outcome by now, but if not, Juliard is an amazing school in and of itself and I'm happy that your son has such a great option available as a "back up". Our school is VERY musically gifted and most students actually consider Juliard to be superior to Eastman.

hey, im with monkey--julliard is world reknowned (sp) but i hope that if eastman is what he wanted above the rest that he got in.
listen, i gotta say that UR wasnt my first choice, but when i got rejected from my first i took a closer look at the schools i did get into, and i realized that there was one that i could get even more excited about than my original first choice. best of luck, but if he doesnt get in, its not the end of the world--for all you know, eastman might not have been ment for him, but julliard of one of the others--take a closer look, it may just be that he really wantes eastman because its all he has the information and perspective on, thats what happened to me.
good luck!
