I know most of people who've been accepted have already heard back from Eastman/Manhattan but I haven't yet. Does this probably mean I've been rejected or waitlisted? That's what I'm assuming has happened. Is calling the school a bad idea to ask about admissions statuses? It's a shame since those are two of my top choices and I've been depressed/saddened by rejections lately.

It seems MSM just began to release acceptances today based on what was reported here.

I do not believe Eastman has released everything as of yet.

It is not yet April 1.

Specific discipline or instrument results may not have all been released from either yet.

I would give it a day or three.

I know, it’s hard waiting.

Good luck to you.

Eastman admissions has stated that they may take as long as April 15th at the latest. So don’t give up! I hope they don’t take that long… Good luck!

It’s late in the game, and I don’t think anyone would think badly of you if you called. I know that MSM just began notifying today but thought that Eastman had everything done. That being said, things can and do get misplaced, so you may have to follow up. Just be aware that the secretaries may not tell you on the phone, but may generate an e-mail to you with the results.
Good luck!

I don’t know about this year, but in a past year I don’t think all voice results were out by this date at Eastman. I think it would be ok to call and inquire.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I suppose I’ll wait until April 1st and if I don’t hear anything then I’ll call. I’m crossing my fingers!

musician55, we’re still waiting for Eastman, too. I haven’t noticed any acceptances for Eastman from other jazz, strings, or wind instrument posters, so I think there are still a lot to come.

flutes have heard (not sure if all have heard) from Eastman, and certain other instruments (not sure which).

Re: Eastman–Some bassoons have heard, some haven’t. This is really not a very nice process. And what about Peabody? Anyone? Anyone?

Spoke to Peabody admissions today. They are emailing results tomorrow. Good LucK!

The online Peabody Financial Aid system says awards will be available there from 5pm EST on Mar 31, which I suppose will give you an indication of your admissions status if you receive any aid…

You guys rock!

Glad to hear we aren’t the only ones targeting and missing mailbox arrivals. I too was considering putting a post up since S has not heard from NEC, and has not gotten financial information from Northwestern. Is there a date that schools must send this information or could we be waiting till mid April??? Has anyone gotten financial information from NW? I hadn’t posted his acceptance thinking I would save work and wait another day to see his final acceptance/rejection from NEC, then another day and another day… so I will post acceptances.

Seriously, I feel like I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole. Peabody posted financial aid for D, but we have not received an acceptance, either email or letter. So she is accepted???
Eastman is disturbingly quiet, some bassoons heard ages ago, some heard last week, I am taking that as bad news. NEC sent the Rejection on Monday, email. This system is broke.

Margecat, my take is that if financial aid info is posted, it would most likely mean an acceptance.

Maybe it is not so much the system is broke, but that each school operates within their own systems.

Kind of like “how do I manage my next four years” when that decision is effectively made by
committee. ;)

Hang in there.

Marjecat, Your story really is the most unusual I have read so far. To get financial info. but not acceptance/rejection letter. NEC sending rejections in email… that is not what I was told at the info. session just a few short weeks ago, was told both would be by mail. NEC I have heard is a great school for learning but when it comes to paperwork and communication it seems not on par with other schools. Does anyone think that carries on to experience student would have when enrolled? And is it worth worrying about?

I would not necessarily equate communication and responsiveness, and perceived efficiency in the admissions/financial aid process with what the overall experience once matriculated would be.

We had one “bad” experience a few years back with one oft mentioned institution that normally functions like a well-oiled machine.

Stuff gets misplaced, servers crash, departments may be shortstaffed, the left hand and the right hand are often are under the control of different “brains” or administrative jurisdictions.

Right now, I’m sure that everyone is doing their best to get the info out. A lot will be resolved within the next day or three.

Now, come this time next week, if you don’t have everything, then it’s time to get on the phone and start to become a PITA.

Just my $.02

And it does seem that the wheels of progress are moving in reverse, if they are moving at all. :D

No one has yet asked about Mannes.

Sorry, NEC was snailmail. I misspoke.

Just as a general note, I wouldn’t let bureacratic screw ups be a guide to how the school operates as a whole or what the experience is like. Especially with big schools, the bureacracy often seems to be something out of the movie “Brazil” or the stereotype of the department of motor vehicles. I went to such an behemoth (NYU) and from what I hear, it isn’t all that much different today then it was back then (other then now they can say it was a fault in the e-mail server, a network glitch, back then they were still using paper for most stuff, which meant it was a typo, got lost in the mail, etc; this was a school that didn’t fully computerize registration until well into the 1990’s…). College bureacracies are like any other, they have their caring, wonderful people, and they have people that fit every stereotype you can imagine (angry person looking to get even, dimwitted underachiever, unionized slacker, you name it:), and things do happen.

On the other hand, it may be indicative in how they try to address problems how they are as a school. If they seem sincerly apologetic, or try to make it right on the first attempt, it means something, if on the other hand it resembles an army snafu in any war movie you can name, it might mean they aren’t exactly student friendly:)

Thanks for responses regarding communications and school efficiency. Actually feel a bit reassured. Also spoke to NEC today and was told dept. my son applied to should be hearing in next few days, but that can be variable to as though they send out the department acceptances from their office they go to another mail office before sending and things can be sent at different times. S. was worried as Tuba friend had been accepted, but he hadn’t heard. Also NEC said they send all acceptances and rejections by snail mail… I always thought that April 1st was the final magical day. Guess I was wrong.
