Going into junior year next, this is how my schedule is turning out
AP Physics 1
AP English Lang
AP Computer science A
Honors Precalc
Marketing
Spanish 4
Honors US history
I am currently taking AP world and about to set off my 2nd semester with a B :(, by best ill get it to a B+ at the end of the year. Doing amazing in all my other classes except that one. In my class, the teacher doesn’t teach jack and all we do in class is random busy work. The textbook reading is our only homework. Is this pretty much what all AP history classes are like? I’ve heard that at my school, APUSH is a lot easier compared to AP world.
How much homework and studying do the three AP classes I’m currently taking right now have and how much added rigor do you think APUSH will bring if I took it instead of honors? Not incredibly interested in US history but would do it if it is worth it on course rigor of college apps and is better to get an A-/B+ in AP class rather than A in honors.
My son is a junior and currently taking AP Physics, AP Computer Science, and previously took APUSH. APUSH was very time consuming. Check around at your school to see what the teacher is like and what others have said. What are your interested, science, english, or math? Colleges will want a strong GPA junior year. Maybe set up a meeting with your guidance counselor and map out a schedule based on your interest in classes and colleges. Good luck!
I took AP lang and APUSH last year. Neither test is particularly impossible (I got a 4 on both), though it can be stressful how APUSH can draw from such a large time period. The thing with APUSH as a class is that it will depend HEAVILY on your school and teacher. I got away with doing only a few essays, reading the prep book now and then and watching some videos. I think I read the text book twice to do the summer homework. But I had friends at other schools who had hours of homework a night and practically memorized the American Pagent in order to pass the class. Your best bet is to ask kids at your school.
Ask around to see which has the better teacher between apush and honors us history.
At my school APUSH is one of the hardest classes and my teacher assigns about 6 hours of reading a week, as well as essays, summary sheets/questions and projects. It is also the most I’ve ever learned and has become one of my favorite classes I’ve ever taken. If you are interested in US History, I would recommend taking it, because it is a lot of work and a time-consuming course but it seems less like work when you are enjoying it. Try talking to your school’s teacher to discuss what the class is like and get a feel for it. If it is easier than AP World at your school and you can maintain a B+ in that class, it seems like an A should be in your reach next year in APUSH, and you can gain college credit if you do well on the exam.
